A family member reversed s fully loaded pickup into my bike while I was standing right next to it. I had my back turned and I just heard crunch!

I think she was more traumatized than me at first. But I'm super sad.

Luckily shes got bobbins so the damage was minor.
Clutch lever is bent down. Engine switched off, by itself when it went down but she started up fine. I think it might be an automatic feature of the bike?

Is it OK to bend the clutch lever straight again?

My mechanic says if he does a quick fix on the corner body panel it can crack again by itself, and says a proper fix is a new or 2nd hand undamaged body panel.

    What do you guys reckon?
I've just spent a lot on a major service and I don't want to spend a lot on a cosmetic thing now.

The lever will probably break when you try and straighten it
But surely you won't be paying for any repairs ?

It's actually my girlfriend who did it. Expenses are shared.

Dont you get a few bends before the lever breaks?

You might do, but would you do that if it was the brake lever?
Look up the price of a new one, they're not expensive. It's the tail fairing that's gonna cost you/her/both.

Ah didn't realise it was your GF
When my wife reversed into my car door, she paid for the door I had the hassle of fitting it.

@Muffking I most certainly do not ever fuck around in the slightest when it comes to brakes. Brakes are my life. But clutch... Hmm I suppose clutch is quite critical. For example if engine is running at high rpm and I need to stop suddenly, and I pull clutch and brakes and the clutch lever snaps, it certainly wouldn't do me any favors in stopping. OK I'll get a new lever.

    @Gaffa22
    Yeah no worries mate.
I found a place that will repair the panel for a reasonable price. I'm going to take it off and take it to a panel shop.

I agree with what you say and I'm sure you wouldn't cut corners when it comes to the brakes. I was making a point about how the risk of snapping a lever outweighs the relatively low cost of replacing a lever.

If it was me I'd sort the clutch lever and live with the rest until I could afford to swap the bits out, even if it was bit at a time.

There doesn't look anything critical, just cosmetic stuff.

    I feel your pain though.

I moved the bike there so we could get stuff out the garage.
The bike was standing behind the pickup truck before we loaded it, and when she got in the bike was there.

So she told me that she can't see anything behind her.
The pickup was parked in a narrow parking bay with walls on both sides so she literally couldn't see the bike or me or the other pickup.
I said don't worry, we will all drive slowly together.

So to be on the safe side I walked 2 meters over to tell my friend in the other pickup that she can't see out the back.
Also he wanted to hear how it sounds so I had a 5-10 second chat about how its in pristine condition is so beautiful and sounds amazing.
    And then, crunch.
    Hahaha. The irony.

My bad is I should have reminded her the bike is there.
Her bad she should have gotten out of asked someone if the bike was gone instead of assuming it was gone.

    Shit happens.
    I won't do this again!

I've already replaced the clutch lever.
And ive taken off and stripped the red panel. I'll drop it off at the body shop tomorrow.

There are some light scratches on the front corner of the mirror.
Maybe it can be sanded smooth with fine sandpaper.
