Noticed this morning that one of the hex screws that holds the filler cap on has fallen out. Popped into the dealer and they are ordering me a new one.....no biggy.

Then on my way back from work on the M25 in the dark and at speed I felt something whack me on the thigh - felt like a loose rucksack strap but it definitely wasn't. Got home and noticed that the black cap off the massive bolt that holds the handlebars on is missing - the one in the middle of this pic that I've borrowed from the web. I can now see all the way through to the bottom of the tube. Does this cap actually do anything or is it just aesthetic? Anyone else lost this?

I expect it will just stop water getting in and causing rust.

Suzuki don't have one, never caused any problems just looked a bit un-finished.

To be honest mate that shouldn't be happening. Get the bike back to the dealers and tell them to check all the fixings are tightened properly. It may be just the bike and parts settling in, but it's not worth the risk of something more serious coming off.

Or if your fine with the tools, check everything for yourself.

Should have been checked at PDI and again 1st service also an important check to make sure bits are still where they should be.

Cheers guys. I'm definitely going to ring them tomorrow and try to explain what it is that has fallen off - any clue what it might be called?

Yeah take it back to order the replacements and get them to have an engineer give it a ounce over with a torque wrench

:(Never had to many issues but after each ride out/wash i do go over the bike checking all nuts bolts ect even underside and there are always some loose fairing bolts ect ,but like the boys say it requires a trained competent eng from the bike shop to re check and to sign off that the bike is safe for you to continue riding safely.

Strange. Maybe due to vibration or something?

I had squirted a bit of ACF50 around the hex bolts on the filler cap. Might have made it more likely to undo I guess.

Yeah, given its intended use in the aviation industry it'd be a bit worrying if it made bolts fall out all over the place.

Got "the important" nuts bolts and screws all checked over. The 2 remaining non-blank hex bolts on the filler cap were loose. They didn't check the hugger screws but thankfully I did and found one was nearly out.

Got warranty replacement bits - fitted the black bung on the top yoke 2 days ago, definitely pushed it on as far as it can go. Yesterday it flew off at quite high speed, got caught in the wind, smacked me on the visor (dinked it) then disappeared into the void. Wtf is going on!? Nobody else lost one of these?
