Have been a bit busy over the summer, but booked a last minute ferry to Santander to do a trip along the Pyrenees/N260 to the Med and back on the French side to Santander. It is sooooooooo nice to be back in Spain on open flowing roads again and so far (day 1) the weather is perfect. Currently in Jaca, and Sort tomorrow.
Very nice Bart ! Done the Pyrenees, Andora, an Down to Barcelona in the car a few times . Going that way again at Xmas .
Do the Sort to Vielha road - up to the ski resort is great, then the road south of Vielha via the tunnel is ace - really wide open fast sweepers - great early / mid afternoon when its really hot. Don't miss the road to Ripol from the border - another ace road but you really cannot go wrong - very envious!
Cheers guys, the Sort/Viehla road looks great and may have a couple of days in Sort. Met a lovely retired couple cycling along the Pyrenees today, they were camping and only had 12kg of luggage between them !! They had whittled it down over the years. I felt rather embarassed and unworthy with my 18kg, no camping kit and just a bit more power, must be getting soft....
G, I went through Broto this morning....? Had a great ride to Sort, dry and high 20's. Stayed at a horse riding Hotel last night, there were 3 Aussies and a Brit and I think the phrase winging Poms is out of order. The Aussies were moaning that this wasn't quite right etc all the time..! Loaded this morning ready to roll The N260 is a road of many characters and some rider fuel In the afternoon I went north to Vielha and then Sort, what a perfect perfect road. Am going to have two nights in Sort and do Viehla again the other way tomorrow. No pics as battery died on me
Ah, those pics. Those roads. It's an itch that's very soon going to get scratched. Pleased your having fun dude. Keep us up to date of you whereabouts. May get an eyeball on you yet.
Here is one option for tomorrow - the small road towards Tremp is ace - stunning views and you should see countless Eagles circling overhead https://goo.gl/maps/fFcVg Longer option here where i would aim to do - the last bit on the 260 back to Sort is ace, really good (you may already have done / be doing it on your trip https://goo.gl/maps/PFXOc
If you need any more ideas just shout - a few suggestions still available if you head further East towards Andorra
Cheers guys, thanks for the suggestions, will see how the weather is over the next few days. They have been promising thunderstorms every day but it's been dry for me.....so far. Will be in Sort Tomorrow night and maybe Sun too. Just had a great pizza near the hotel and the beer was served in a pint glass no less, but flan with cream and creme caramel got a little lost in translation somewhere.
Thanks for the replies guys, I'm a bit cream crackered tonight so expect more spelin errors than normal No luggage today and started yesterdays route in reverse, so back up to Viehla from Sort, the last bit to the col Then down the 230 and left to Tremp It was so hot down in Tremp, but found a roadside picnic area with water fountain, then up heading east on the 511 for just a "few" bends This one was so tight and was called Coll de Bollox well almost Almost made it back to base before the rain, but not quite. At one stage on the 260 back into Sort the lightening was below me in the Valley, very strange.
Decided to stay in Sort again today, went back down to Tremp to the shady watering hole to cool off again Onto the c 1412 as recommended and stopped at the top, two local dudes. They said Marques was from round hear, I can begin to understand why he is so good with all these roads Then north back to Sort on the 260, you can just see the road
Pics look great - thanks for taking the time to upload as you go along. Try and keep a note of the routes you do each day (maybe they are logged in your sat nav or similar) - be good to see them at the end of the trip. Keep an eye out for Jason, GaryB, Steve and Craig who dock monday night I think and then head East towards you. Good to hear you are enjoying the routes / suggestions - where you going to next ?
Thanks Al, I do get a lazy about downloading routes from the Zumo, but as you know there are soooooooooo many good roads here you cant go wrong. For anyone thinking about a trip the ferries get cheaper end of Sept or in Oct and you could be in Sort in a day and a half.....I just booked a seat and as you dock in Santander about 6pm sleep was not a problem zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The worlds your oyster etc etc.... Just booked a couple of nights near Ripol. What are Jason, GaryB, Steve and Craig riding, all Blades..??? My general plan is too do Spain west to east to the Med and then France east to west, but plans do change..
BMW Sthou in motorad colours, Honda TT legends blade, a black blade and Craig on a Repsol blade - no idea on their plans
Blimey, four sports bikes, that will make a change from seeing all the "adventure touratec" things rumbling past. have seen a few sports bikes over the weekend but they are thin on the ground...are we a dying breed ?? Just got in from dinner at a local meatery, they like there meat here, but the postre (pudding) was described as bananas with cuantrau (spelling , hic ), but really was the other way round hic , zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
If you are heading to Ripoll try this route - https://goo.gl/maps/fh2Ms The first bit to Ripoll is what we call 'cow shit road' - then the road heading west to Berga is really twisty where a nissan micra was almost going onto 3 wheels it was driven that hard. From the Bourg Madame the road to Prades is good, then Milas to Estagel, etc. as per this link https://goo.gl/maps/AIPXT If you do that , please call in to Les Cabannes (between Tarascon and Ax-Le-Thermes) - have a coffee at the Le Muire pub / bar and see the photo montage from my previous trips. Get a pic with bar staff or it never happened - they know us very well!
Did the 402 east from Ripoll, hard work on the Blade. It made roads like the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap in the States (google it) look like a motorway, sorry freeway. Then onto a v fast flowin road north and was being left by manic drivers when doing 90 + on long fast sweepers, must go and find some more bottle somewhere. Next I was just contemplating how good the Pyrenees are with no tolls for the passes when I exited a tunnel 5km long and had to pay 9.80 euro. In France the roads were worse and the coffee is twice the price. Got caught in a thunderstorm later, it was rainin stairrods. Will get to the Med tomorrow and then start back west in France or my drop back down to Espania... No pics today, sorry
A few pics The Med High in the Pyrenees in France Andorra In door filling station, about £1.00/lt The road down back to France Now back in Spain as France is expensive and bunpy compared to Spain Think I may have seen the 4 Northern Amigo's today near Sort
