Has anyone got any good twisty roads around Dorchester apart from the usual Dorchester to Sherbourne/Shaftsbury?
Hi Reid. I too struggle for a twisty zippy route locally and usually find myself riding the following from Poole, but from Dorchester, have you tried: Dorchester to bere Regis, to Blandford via thornicombe route then heading to Shaftesbury (my preference is the lower road through Iwerne minster) then either head back via Shaftesbury to gillingham road or try heading to Salisbury via the fovant road. Salisbury to Wimborne doing a left at the six penny handley roundabout through cranborne. Then maybe back via Bradbury rings road to Blandford to either sturminster Newton or Dorchester. Another mix would be Blandford to Yeovil via kings stag..... Hope this helps a little. I'm always up for a ride if ya stuck or happy to learn some roads your direction. Good luck & enjoy. Careful of boys in blue around the Blandford bypass, especially if your not wearing ya seatbelt!!
Reid, though I'm a Londoner my parents live near Bridport. When I'm heading down there it's playtime as soon as I come off the 303 by Micheldever. So for me it's a30 to Salisbury, a354 past Blandford, a35 past Dorchester to Bridport. I love the views and smells all the way. Any of those any good? Or is that old hat?
Cheers for the routes, I' ve probably been on some of these routes but never really paid attention, but will now. Thanks
Like Lambeth says the A35 is hard to beat. If you eat stuck in traffic in a car it can be a bind but on the bike it's a great road.
