Bloody hell had a go on a mates y,day what a bike if you think a blade is smooth try one of these, another mate rode my 2011 blade and then the bmw and he got off and said thats my mind made up bmw it is, went with him 2day and he brought a 11 plate one. Germans know how to build a bike.
Just what i though .Not had a test run but i bet there would be quite a difference.Only trouble is they are a bit ugly.
Hmmm loads of bhp then loads of gizmos to tame it = a crank bolt coming lose shit to get on with on the road loosing out to the blade roglbean!
After just having my dyno done and hearing lots of the blade is still the best all round package for rd track low end track high en track it just does what it does and dont shout about it
The performance of the bmw is a little better but will it make me ride any faster.....doubtful but i would be going faster when i end up on the grass
A friend of mine has just got one as well also after trying the Blade. Do look nice and yeah go like stink but I reckon the Blade is a better all round package for predominantly road use. Another guy I know recently sold one and returned to an R1 as he thought the BMW was nothing special and only really came alive at the naughty side of the rev range meaning any fun to be had was either all over to quick or in the danger zone, again his was road use. For me it was an easy decision R1 or Blade, the Blade ticked more boxes for me.
Its funny because i was just reading up about a comparison between an S1000rr and an RR8 Blade that had been tweaked with an exhaust, filter and Bazzaz set up. The BMW had it top end but the Blade bashed it up through the rev range.......its seems the blade had the edge over all
Cant say i think its ugly, i didnt really rag it so for me it felt much the same as the blade around the 100mph mark but slightly smoother, brakes are bloody good tho, clocks very good and the gear indicator, i am loving my blade but if i had test rode these 2 bikes back to back and the money was about the same i would of had a few sleepless nites lol.
I think the finish on BMW's is shocking it's very plasticy and cheap looking close up. I keep looking at pics and write ups they leave me thinking yeah I want one then I stand in front of it and think errrrrrrrrrm no, cheap cheap cheap finish!
I love my blade possible best looking current bike out there R6 may have the edge on looks mind you .My only real moan is the brakes are crap and i have still not got around to upgrading the pads.
My mates just traded his 2010 for a 2012 when you think his 2010 could not catch another mates K6 1000 off the lights with 171bhp and the BMW dyno'd 196 you start scatching your head, we tried it time and time again even with no rider aids but then was just too hard to nail! Will let you know how the so called revised 2012 runs next week when run in. The BM has full akra etc etc but seems to lack a ton of mid and real world it shows too even up against a much older bike and that K6 had no shifter or nothing....it does now....lol Tbh I think the reveiws are full of tosh just marketing and something for the mags to write about after all how can they print what I have just told you....makes the BMW look a bit silly.. Its a nice bike and has huge to end power but imo there are far better bikes tgat are not even as new like the cbr. Just wanted to post up our findings.. I will lookup the thread in a few weeks time and let you know if the 2012 is any quicker in reality, I know one thing power is nothing unless you can put it all down imo 130bhp is just as quick as 200 on the road if you have to hit the brakes each turn with 200... Lol
You need beers goggles on to think the BMW is a good looking bike. What's up with those headlight shapes?! I've ridden my mates one It's nice to ride but I prefer my blade .
I had a test ride of the BM recently and it was really smooth. Almost bought it too but the 08 Blade is so much more 'lush'. Suspension was a tad softer, engine a bit meatier, brakes a bit softer !! (not necessarily a good thing but have plans to fix that). Overall the Blade was just easier to ride quicker. Plus I've done a few mods that I'll never get the money back so not worth changing in the end. It's like fine wine and top quality hi-fi - the law of diminishing returns. The BM was a better bike, but not so much that it was worth changing - especially given my preferences. The one thing that almost swayed it - heated grips. Honda wouldn't fit them because the battery couldn't take them, so looking around for a stronger battery so that I can have heated grips.
I'd have to agree with this re the finish and quality, seems a bit of a mish mash in places and some of the plastics are questionable.
My mate had all the plastic changed for BMWs carbon, looks the balls but man near a grand....more expensive than Ducati...lol
its not just the plastics lol on the way home from picking the bike up y,day the rear is nearly shot so my mate got me to call bmw for a quote to fit a pair of pirelli rosso 2s that will be £420 sir pmsl pmsl had a pair fitted at my honda dealer 3 weeks ago £245
when i first saw pics of the BM I made up my mind to buy one, then I saw it in the flesh and changed my mind. I liked the shape but the finish, especially how plastic it looked ruined it for me. I do think performance is really important, but I think it has to be useable and as a road rider I think the BM's top end would be a waste for my road use. My tweaked 06 is now providing a nice balance of slightly scary but controllable power, I love the looks and the build quality is great. I think the BM could be awesome if they do a few tweaks and up the finish, but can't see them doing it as the price would have to rise.
I don't see how on a fourteen thousand pound Yes fourteen thousand pounds they cant make the finish better it's not a mid range price cheap bandit it's fourteen thousand pounds. I keep saying the price because for that money Aprilia seem to make a very nicely finished bike and ok Honda and Suzuki don't have some if the toys that the Beemer has but for £3k u'd get abs a HM shifter and full bazzaz traction control set up with lots of change! If a Suzuki fan(moi) is picking up on the lack of quality then surely something ain't right?????
