Got my first trackday coming up and I'm planning to just enjoy it, pay attention to advice given by the quick lads and bring the bike home in one piece. Just thought it would be a good idea to get some tips on body position, I'm not wanting to be scraping my knee all day (although that would be ace!) just wanting to know how to position on the bike to make progress towards it. I already lean off when I ride the road but never really stick my leg out so I'm used to dropping my shoulder and getting my upper body across and down and it really does help. Just feels strange shifting my arse now, got my sis to take a pic while cleaning out the garage anyway... all tips welcome!! Cheers guys
Looks good. Hard to see from the photo but Ive always been told to keep your balls off the tank, slide back a bit. So you can move from one side of the bike to the other easier. Also grip the tank with your knees when braking. Each to there own though so whatever feels comfortable to you.
Sounds like your doing the right things already, wouldn't worry about it too much as you get faster during the day it will just happen, just relax and have fun!
So just stick with this, get some heat in the tyres and add some lean?? Weather forecast isn't looking good tho!
just been reading this from the site that was posted up by a member the other day, giving info on tyres. How to Get Your Knee Down - Motorcycle Body Position
Yeah just relax and take your time, learn the track. You've got all day to build your speed up. Get one of the instructors to follow you. The advice they give will help you no end. I think it free to get one of the instuctor for a session. I dont think I paid when I was at Prembry with Focused Events
Only thing that worries me is that I'm on roadsmart 2s although they do market them as having a soft compound on the edge! Don't wanna be low siding her
They should be good. I just use maxxis road tyres and they do me fine. I get overtaken a bit but still enjoy myself.
I just see so many geezers with super sticky tyres on the road that you could stick a birthday candle in theyre that soft, so when I imagine the tyres people use on track I feel my sport tourers may be somewhat unfit for purpose..
Obviously they are going to be better (and more expensive) but you'll be fine on the dunlops. Just remember to drop the pressures. There will be a tyre service there who will drop the tyre pressures and put the back up for your trip home
Yeah they will advise you what pressures will be best for your tyres. Theres a tyre fitting service at most track days. They will adjust them for you.
Yeah I did the suzuki GSXR 25th in 2010. Great track, you will be speechless the first time you go over the mountain. I need to go back but Its a bit of a trek from Leicester, so next time I'll book into a hotel. I mainly go to mallory, silverstone and donny. Mallory is only down the road from me. Im well placed in Leicester
Dont leave if its wet. You'll be amazed how quick you can go in the wet, just take your time, nice and smooth riding!
Yeah York puts me well out the way and apart from Croft which always seems fully booked up Cadwell is the next closest track. Can't wait to go over the mountain, I've done the Yorkshire TT 3 times this weekend in preparation which is profiled like the lochness monsters back! Little bit of wind on and I've been in the air more times than I could count this weekend, some of the other road users in their cages must be thinking wtf is this idiot doing, hehe, makes an overtake all that bit sweeter when you go past without even touching the ground.
Ha ha I shit myself first time the front wheel came up, paniced and shut the throttle. The wheel came down with a bang and I head butted the camera on the tank! Also being a suzuki day the stands were full
