So, as title states, on the weekend I put a deposit down on an 08 blade, I got it for a good price and im due to pick it up the weekend after next. Ive always wanted the 08> Fireblade, my first bike a couple of years back was an 08 600RR which I loved and last bike was an RC8 (which I liked). I sold the RC8 with the intention of racing this season in the Thundersport500 but since losing my job and having to relocate for another job I've decided this year is not the best year to splash out on racing. So ive bought myself an 08 blade, with approx 9k miles and a couple of services. The dealer im buying it from have told me they will service/mot it and fully check it over but what should I be looking out for when I go pick it up? Ive heard about oil issues on the 08 models, some people speaking of litre of oil for every 1500 miles? Are they not as wonderfully reliable as the 600RR? I racked up 8k miles on the 600RR in about 8months of hard riding and I never had to worry about anything. Hopefully you will all tell me to stop worrying and to enjoy the bike....but im now worrying I should of gone zx10r? :/
Welcome to the club.............. You'll love it. Oil, I'm sure if it had an oil issue, it would have been sorted in it's first year on the road. Of course, you'll be putting up pics as soon as you get it........ LOL. The RC8 was my second choice for a new bike, but I returned to the Fireblade due to their build quality and reliability. I'm on my second blade and found it the easiest 1ltr sports bike to ride.
I have just bought one myself last week. Traded up from a Gixer 1000 K5. Some said I'd be sorry but it is an awesome bit of kit. It's a very light bike with loads of power, and handles really well, changes direction with just a thought and even scrubbing some speed on the front brakes when cranked over it doesn't try and stand itself up. Mine has 10k on it with 1 owner and about 5-6 services but it has been used in all weather. The dealer fitted a new chain and due to some marks on the rear wheel where water/salt has gotten underneath, I decided to get the wheels powder coated and the rear shock spring looks a tad rusty. Even though those bits were looking tired, the rest of the bike has faired much better and looks as new with a quick wash. By the time I have swapped out the rear shock and gotten the wheels back it will be immaculate.
Thanks for the reassurance mate, i'm excited to get it now! The reliability and build quality is what attracts me to Honda. I loved how easy the 600RR was to ride and I just dont think im a V-twin chap (nothing to do with being envious of the RC"R" which was out of my price range). I'm taking it to Olivers mount for the Spring Cup and over to the TT in June so it should get a good run this summer, along with plenty of trackdays hopefully!
No problem with burning oil with my rr8 runs sweet and never let me down, you, ll enjoy it mate.ride safe.
