I have been thinking of getting my forks sprung to my weight for years but being from Yorkshire I am to tight, But my son bought a race bike with 9nm springs ( R6 ) and got me thinking of changing mine, so I have bought 9nm springs for mine and it has made so much difference, the standard springs are rated at 125kg + I am 72KG with no gear,
I was worried that I would lose fast corner stability going for a lesser spring rate, but it is still on rails and just takes out the harshness,
I am an average fastish rider on the road and still had 25mm travel left but used preload to get static sag down. (I am not hard on the brakes ), if you like your brakes maybe a 9.5 would be better at my weight
The standard 2012-2019 BPF fork has a spring rate of 11.3nm which is ok if you want a passenger but if you are like me, an old git with no mates, I want it to be closer to my weight and with a bit more comfort over the bumpy roads
It seems even the racers do not use anyway near 11.3nm springs supplied as standard. the SP is only 10ish
Next is the rear shock, It has a 114nm spring as standard but for me wants to be about 100nm but it seems they take a bit of fitting as they are not made for changing
I have put the K Tech chart below,

This is a good find. I'm about 98kg and just gone with feel etc. I've fitted a bitubo rear shock and had that set up for me and when my sons on back as well.
The bike feels better with my son on back but is still awesome tbf with me solo. I've softened pre load up on front but dialled in damping a bit more than standard settings.
This may be on my to do list now as I may be better with 10s or 10.5s. Something to think about for winter

I am now wanting to change the rear spring but it seems they do not do these anymore for Showa 13/19 shocks, as far as I can see the spec for the rear spring is 59mm ID 165 mm long, I need 100nm rate, anyone got one ? I will have to continue looking

Hi, I can not believe no one does replacement springs, it seems K tech might have done them at some time according to Brookes suspension but they do not now, the original spring is 59mm id 165mm long 114nm, I got in touch with Maxton and they said they would respring but using adapters, I asked what size spring they would use but they have not emailed back to say, I am guessing it would be 59mm x 152mm as they use this size, and probably with a 13mm spacer, but still waiting for the reply
half of me says ok but short, the other half is looking at a k tech 57mm x 170 spring, this would need work to fit but is a closer length,
I can go bigger on spring id above 59mm and make adapters but would like 165mm to 170mm long 100n rate any help would be most appreciated
the shock is coming out tomorrow and I will try to see if it will take a 57 id spring as these are quite common, from a quick look the shock body is 50dia and when compressed this goes into the bottom spring retainer, so in theory 50mm body going into a 52mm id hole and 57mm od,
I would have to machine the new spring holders at each end
as mentioned if anyone knows where you can get a 59mm id x 165mm long spring 100N spring that would be great,

Hi, so a quick update, the shock came out today, I measured up and found the spring is 59mm ID bottom end and 53mm top end, this explains why no one makes replacements
I have ordered an Ohlins 01092-34 spring which translates to 57 Id 170 long 100nm this will fit and may be better than original as 2mm narrower,
The original spring at 59mm has been catching the swing arm as shown with the wear (would be better if in focus ), I am now fitting a 57mm so this may now clear.
the 57mm spring will fit better at the bottom as bags of slack which may be why it is catching the swing arm, I will machine an adapter for the top.
I was after going to Brookes suspension today for the spring but they told me it was not open due people on hols so hopefully it will arrive tues, I will post more info then IMG_2442.JPG IMG_2443.JPG

I should have done this years ago, I have only done the front up to now but it has made so much difference, I have spent a lot of time adjusting the forks and shock over the years and it has been ok on some roads and not others, or the temp changes and it is not as good,
but in reality you only have to look at the spring rates and if they are not right you do not get the suspension travel you need, it makes the compression and rebound adjustments very sensitive
The new spring should come tomorrow, no Ohlins springs due til october so have changed to K Tech

So the new spring came today and was fitted, I checked sag and I had 10mm static and 36mm ride which is quite good, I took it out for a quick ride and the rough places I used to hold on I don't have to now it is so much smoother, I can still go high speed with full stability, I have not adjusted compression or rebound on front or back yet as waiting til I had finished, it should only improve
The spring is 5mm longer than standard and the adapter is 1.8mm this gives 6.8mm preload before any adjustment.
the shock has a 3 to 1 ratio so tomorrow I will take 1mm off the preload adjuster and will give me 13mm static, probably don't need to but would prefer 13mm static, this would give 39 mm rider,
