Hello all. While i was out earlier in the week having a ride, i experienced a really nasty judder from my front end ! I recently fitted Brembo M4's and mc, but still has the standard discs, new wheel bearings. All was torqued up and thread locked too. All seemed good and biting well, but every now and then a slight judder. Slight enough for me to wonder if it was a judder or not, if you know what i mean... While riding quiet hard, trying to feel if everything was all right, i came down quite a steep hill with a tight right hand bend at the bottom and hit the brakes and it did the judder from hell and proper chattered ! I gently got her home and checked the front end over and can't find anything obvious. Rode it again and it felt fairly ok, but its got me suspicious now... Any ideas what my malfunction could be ? (with the bike ) Cheers...
Borrow a DTI with mag mount if you know someone working in engineering and check for runout on the discs. I'm sure your local bikeshop will be able to help if they think they may get some work from it!
What pads you running? My mate used brembo pads on standard disc's and caliper and the juddered like mad, swapped for ebc and all was ok after
Brembo pads that come with the brembo callipers mate. I ran brembo pads in my standard ones and got on really well with them ! I personally wouldn't go near ebc's !
Replace your headstock bearings, mine were shot, upgrade to tapered roller bearings instead. This cured my front end judder too. Also check wheel bearings as one could be partially seizing causing said judder.
Im reckoning headstock too mate ! Everything else has been replaced... Do they still not stick taper rollers in as standard
No they still use old school ball bearings which are almost impossible to get the correct amount of preload on them.
Old version is the ball bearing type, this one only did 87 miles so is still like new condition, the tapered roller version is now the one I am fitting instead as it absorbs radial and axial loads compared to the ball bearing version which can only absorb axial loads, this is an HRC upgrade which greatly improves the stability of the front end and distributes far better loading forces into the headstock frame . It looks fluffy but is actually covered in grease ready for fitment.

worth checking the pads for glazing if you're noticing it after 'riding quite hard'. If the pads weren't bedded in properly you can feel it like the brakes trying to grab. My bike had just had new discs and pads when I got it and it appeared that the previous owner, or the mechanic at the dealer had taken it for one last spirited ride. I found this heading towards a roundabout with the missus on the back! Pads removed, deglazed and now its perfect.
