08 brake light stopped working for no apparent reason Neither lever activates it. Must be LED bulb so shouldn't be that. All other lights work. Any suggestions?
The switch needs screwing in a bit more? Wobble it a bit while depressing the brake lever, see if it flickers?
If it is not working from the front or rear brake then it is more than likely going to be a fault with the rear lamp unit. Use a test light to check for power to the rear lamp connection when pressing either brake. Make sure you have the ignition on......I know this sounds obvious but I've seen my apprentice forget many times
Ahh, neither lever... sorry , just re-read it. Have you tried the fuse, or have a look at the wiring under the main seat. Trace it back from the tail light, and see if the plug has disconnected?
Vic_ster have you still got those rear lights for sale mate? I reckon mine might be faulty. If I need to rip the tail apart again I want to be ready cos I hate doing it!
yep, now looked for you before you posted that! great minds and all that haha yeah got 1 that i know works fine. how much was it inc postage, whatever that was pay me that
I just realised I couldn't even hear the front brake switch click, so I removed my new Speedycom Evo III lever and discovered that the switch actuater wasn't there! It bolts on (two tiny bolts) and has obviously vibrated off at some point. Not exactly sure why that stops the rear pedal from triggering the brake light though?
The front switch activates on release, so it was permanently activated. When the ignition is switched off, then back on, the bike thinks the brake light is already on, so triggering the rear doesn't do anything. Does that sound like a reasonable explanation?
ok, as far as i can see on this crappy zoom on this crappy computer..... if it's not working with either brake pedal, lever, you need to check the 3 pin plug for brake/tail light. should get 12v (at least) between the g/y and the grey wire. i assume gy will be grey/yellow. if you have voltage the led cluster is buggered. i cant see any other multi plug or joints that would effect both switches other than a broken wire
Thanks mate. It works now though. The only change I've made is fitting a lever which has a brake light actuator. I was just wondering why both would stop working just because of a problem with the front? Does this explanantion sound plausible?... "The front switch activates on release, so it was permanently activated. When the ignition is switched off, then back on, the bike thinks the brake light is already on, so triggering the rear doesn't do anything. Does that sound like a reasonable explanation?"
sounds shite to me. ya could be trailing the front brake for 3 miles with no brake light on if that was the case. also, to my way of thinking, once the ignition has been cut, the bike shouldnt think the brake light is on unless one of the brake switches had been used. sounds more like a dirty or wet connection to a multi plug, which should be next to the rear light cluster. have just re - read. lol, nob head me. yep, sounds plausible, very plausible. you meant the actual switch itself actuates the lights when in open circuit. so when you fitted your new bling, it was opening the circuit for the lights. yep, thats it mate.
But it works faultlessly now? (as soon as I fitted the other lever). What I was trying to say was that the brake light switch was already activated before the ignition was switched on, so activating it again had no effect. That's the only explanation I can think of that makes any sense at all to me.
