Noticed a faint clunk from front brake while manovering on the drive. On closer inspection found that the disks on both sides have rotational play of approx 0.5 mm between disks bobbins and the rotor arms. The bike brakes fine both light and heavy breaking at high speed and light and heavy at low speed no judder or clunk. I did notice this morning upon leaving the house and setting off down the steep hill in the cold that there was a light shushing noise of the pad just kissing the disk after breaking, this soon stopped after a while....so I'm guessing caliper may need a strip down and clean.
However what is acceptable and safe in terms of the disk bobbin play? any suggestions?
    cheers

    Floating disks?? Normal mate.

have you sintered pads? Whooshing is also normal.

Someone asked me today, why do they float?

Answer: as they get hot they expand, as they cool they contract, if they were fixed to the inner carrier they would warp as they expand.

Just for those who wondered why....lol

AH HAAAA! cheers arthur had noticed the very same on my down hill race bike at the start gate lose disks at the finish enclosure disks tight as.
Still is there an upper safe limit to the amount of play as I would imagine wear and tear would increase the amount of play.
