It's when I pull to a stop at traffic lights or simular, so it's really 'light' front braking.. The only way I can describe it is it's as if one of the discs is warped slightly? I don't know if I've just answered my own question but this has suddenly come on and surely something dramatic has to happen for a disc to warp? Difficult do describe but when braking slowly its 'brakes bite, then very sightly release, then bite, then very slightly release, etc etc' and it's not juddery but a smooth transition from bite to slightly less bite.... and this is only with gentle braking. A bit more pressure on the lever and it eliminates it. Havn't had a chance to look over it yet but any thoughts would be useful, although I did check & the brake fluid level looks fine. Cheers all....
First thing I would do is get some brake cleaner out, you may have a bit of grit stuck in the pad? Sure someone will tell me I'm wrong but that's got to be worth a shot
Can you feel the lever "pulsing" in your fingers? You can check the disc run out by lifting the wheel & spinning it with a metal rule (or similar) against each disc. I would first be removing the pads & giving everything a good clean, then checking as above.
Yes, absolutely! I was scratching my head to find the best way to describe it.... Spot on !! Looks like I've got some cleaning to do, great, its pi$$ing down atm !
Next time you ride it , try coming to a stop without using the front brake. If one or both discs are hot, then they may be warped.
My first instinct would be if the lever is pulsing is that you have a warped disc, as Megawatt says next time you have a run, brake and stop, if you can feel the disc is hot then its warped, also discs go a bluey colour if they have been warped for a long time where the heat tarnishes the disc itself. Hope that helps. Cheers Pete
