In the process of placing an order for Brembo 19x20 front brake master cylinder + HEL hoses for my 2011 CBR1000RR. Following a discussion with a mate in the trade, I am now also thinking of getting Brembo front brake calipers for my bike, so that I have the same set up as I did on my Duacti 1098R and Desmosedici. Any ideas on the best/cheapest contact for the calipers? May however leave the calipers until next year, depending on cost etc.
Here they are Brembo Forged Radial Monoblock, Front Brake Calipers from PDM Racing Not bad really as I used to pay around £180 for a set of brake pads for these calipers!!! That brings the cost down to £515 in real world terms!!!! Also have a look here: http://www.moto-racing.co.uk/cat--H...lipers--All+CBR900QQS1000+Brake+Calipers.html
Speak to biketorque racing. I wouldn't bother unless you upgrade to brembo discs at the same time. The discs are about £600 .
Hi FlatstickHRC Again thanks for the info, spoke to Biketorque racing, they told me that I would be fine with the standard discs, however the Brembo discs would improve the braking performance . Cost of Brembo Clubman discs (5mm thick) are £338+VAT/pair or Brembo HPK (5.5mm thick) are £440+VAT/pair. PDM certainly look the cheapest for the Brembo M4monoblocks at £695. Also as you said, Brembo 19x18 ratio mater cylinder is required with Brembo calipers as the 19x20 ratio is not compatable with Brembo calipers. So it looks like £250 (for Brembo 19x18 ratio master cylinder + banjo + braided hoses) + £695 (Brembo M4 calipers) + £405 (Brembo clubman discs) = £1,350 OR £945 (without discs). Expensive but an excellent upgrade to the Blade along with fork internals & TTX rear shock Cheers Rich
Personally I wouldn't bother changing the callipers and discs. The OE ones are very good It's the standard cylinder which is the weak link in the brake system. I would save my money and put it towards a new rear shock
I think you right, I think I will fit a Brembo master cylinder & HEL lines initially and see how it goes. May be worth while going to the States on holiday and purchase a TTX shock there and save around £400!! Nearly pay's for the holiday!!!
Yes they are cheaper over there but remember to get the right spring fitted etc. Plus they can be a pain in the arse to set up out of the box. Makes goin to mct, k-tech or maxtons (theirs new shock and cartridge kits are excellent) etc a good idea as they will help set it up.
The OHLINS dealers in the US will build the TTX with the correct spring to suit weight etc and will set up the shock according to your ridding style/ability etc just like the UK however cost around £800 rather than £1250 in the UK. Once home its just a matter on fitting/bolting in the new shock!!! Happy days!!!
Only time I bough ohlins 'off the shelf' I was left to get on with it myself and it was a pain in he arse to dial in at first. Mct re shim them for your weight and modify where the spring seats etc as part of the price but like you say they are much cheaper in the US.
Must admit I'm chuffed to bits with my Brembo m/c + hel lines, what a difference they make. I'll not be bothering changing calipers/discs, my limit will be to change out the OE pads when the time comes !
