Looking for bit of help please. Bike was running sweet, no issues. Stopped for a coffee and would then not start. Quickly realised I had no fuel pump prime. Checked fuses, swapped relays gave up and got her sorry rs home in the back of a van. At home I removed the kill switch but not much I can do with it really, relay has voltage when kill switch is triggered so I think kill switch is ok. Voltage present at pump connection. Supplied pump with 12v and she runs. My problem is she will not prime to start. Probably not best explanation but it’s a start. Cheers for any help
“Supplied fuel pump with 12v and she runs” Does this mean the pump runs or the bike runs? I think you mean pump and in this case the pump is good and the relay is good, so I think the kill switch is the issue.
Thank you for helping out. Cheers. To clarify yes the pump runs when fed directly. The fuel pump relay also toggles power when switched from the kill switch. I also have power at the connector under the tank feeding the pump. I don’t know if this power toggles from the kill switch because my head was fried late last night trying to get my head found this. Many thanks for your help.
I had this problem on an old 600rr I had ran brilliant until 1 day I stopped to meet up with friends and then she wouldn't start, turned out to be a tiny bit of corrosion at the main 30amp fuse holder, it didn't even look that corroded but I ended up getting recovered and stripping everything off the bike and testing relays and the ECU and it turned out to be something so simple that I overlooked
No prime at all. There is power at the 3 pin block under the tank. If I jump the corresponding cable to the pump nothing happens. If I jump the other wire, the one that had no power, the pump runs. No prime, just runs. The cable with power does not respond to kill switch.
A while back a friend of mine had the same problem, turned out to be the main wiring block connector behind the left side fairing. There is a wire in the multi plug that goes to the tilt sensor behind the headlight. Hope this helps.
I’ll have a look now. Thank you all for your responses. It’s appreciated. More and more of the bike apart now !
So there are two browns ( good start) but yes there is voltage “as there should be” but only on one ? Does it mean both ? Next line isn’t exactly clear but I assume that it means that if the voltage remains “replace fuel pump unit”. Still not entirely happy with diagnosis really.
