having looked at the dates for next year im gonna ride across to assen for bsb round.......riding all the way from norn iron.............was thinking outta belfast - cairnryan to newcastle - amsterdam..............is anyone else going........has anyone done it before........any tips.........
I've been to Assen twice, once for WSB and once for MotoGP and its great! I wonder whether we could organise a 1000RR.co.uk ride out to this event, would be excellent? Anyone interested? What is the date btw bry?
dates are 21st sept - 23rd sept........i hear the newcastle - Amsterdam ferry is a party boat..........did you hotel or b&b..........or is camping a good option...........was at oulton park last year and camped......was a great laugh
We went Eurotunnel, (live in Portsmouth) then France, Belgium, Holland. We stayed at a place called Zwolle in a hotel. It was great the Dutch are great people, drink loads and put mayo on chips. Camping would be even better though I reckon!
went to Assen motogp... was insane!! the place was buzzing with live bands etc... one square had a massive set up and dj's etc that ive only ever seen at festivals! we camped, all the sites surrounding track are brilliant and clean, so no bad experiences at all.... my only neg would be the ride there... its pretty boring and 5hrs on the motorway, looked to do a more interesting route, but was pretty limited when looking at the map... sure it can be done though. be interested in going again though, not sure how much of a big deal the dutch will make of bsb though. oh and if your getting grand stand seat, the section where we sat at the end of start finish is great as you can see alot of the track! elsewhere you cant see so much as its quite a long narrow set up...
Have done Assen from 1989-2008 regularly for both MotorGP and WSB. Its quite an acheivement for BSB to get one of their venues at Assen as they only hold only 4 bike races on the GP circuit. Assen is very popular with Brits but just beware of the Dutch Police with speeding your bike is confiscated and as much as £800 plus a court case on Monday morning just to get it back will set you back financially to well over a grand.
they also park outside the camp sites and breatherlize people when they leave so be careful! other than that...its awesome!
Leaving the Dutch TT was one of the best rides I have ever had! People lining the roads and on motorway bridges waving for miles..superb!
In 2005 took a group 12 of us it took one idiot to let loose in the 170's just when I needed to peel off for Bielen luckily got the group back to a reasonable pace when we saw two coppers under a bridge with video cameras so pulled into the service station where we saw two low loaders packed with British and German bikes. My Dutch friends follow BSB with a passion.
