Seen a bike I'm interested in which is owned by a collector who has a lot of bikes.

The bike is 3.5 years old with 900 miles on the clock. I believe the mileage is genuine but only had first 600 mile service and no other official services. He seems honest and says it has had oil and filter changed by him but wondering if buying a bike which has been laid up and not had annual services could be a problem.

    All advice welcome, cheers.

Can't see it being a problem to be honest mate.

1 thing I would want to know though is if the fuel has been left in the tank all that time, or if he drained it. You can find that if it has been in there (unless brimmed) it can cause rusting inside the tank.

As above, should be fine :) Worth changing oil, brake fluid etc when you get it.

Talking of old 'new' bikes :-

Having had every Blade made from the 929 onwards (except SP) and I crunched 95K on a 929 in just over 3 years, I have sat here trying to think of 1 single reason why you
would drop 8.3K on one when you can buy a 12MY and some with that money and own a bike that is in a completely different league.........still wracking my brains

I haven't checked the content, but the title is a contradiction - RR2 is 954cc and a very different bike to the 929 model.

All these bikes are well over priced when you can buy new.

what bike are you talking about? the assumption is a blade but you haven't said.

if he's a genuine collecter then he will have it stored correctly no doubt so cant see an issue

    Its an RSV4 Factory.

But he never mentioned stored correctly in our chat. He said he owned a Desmosedici and an 1199r and never rode the Aprilla.

Yes that's the one. Bit worried it's only had the 600 mile service in the last 3 years. Its basically an oil and filter change and nothing else at the 600 mile service.

I also can't make my mind up if I would prefer a zx10r. A lot cheaper for me to insure and non of the reliability worries or spares issue's.

    Have you seen it ?

I have no doubt at 900 miles its flawless cosmetically but with little service history my concerns are mechanical ones. Is there flat spots on bearings, condensed liquid knocked out into the oil, corrosion in the tank, stiff or part seized linkages etc....

Maybe I m worrying about nothing but sometimes things that have been left to stand are more trouble than something than has been regularly used and maintained in my experience.

trust me jonny is anal about his bikes, and if he's offering it to me then it's a good un'.

as for service history, not sure what your worrying about,it's 900 miles what service history would it have apart from it's first?

I'm not trying to do the big sell because I know him, theres a couple of lads on here that know him (jase, james).he bought/buys bikes that are a bit special, special editions, top end exotica and keeps them to ride on the odd occasion but is trying to down grade a bit.

he has 1 desmo he rides with about 9k miles,he actually had 2 :) and sold one last year,it had never turned a wheel!!!.

and I'm still debating wether to buy it as he has a lot of track goodies to go with it aswell for a bit more (ok a lot...) money.
