Hallo fireblade fans, This weekend I am (probably) buying my first fireblade. Now I ride an sv1000n. Of course I want to test ride the blade. I have pland a test drive on the fireblade from the following video. This is a 2009 model (32K), because I don't want the 2008 model (because of the oil usage). Does the engine sound normal in de video? or do you see any other specific things? Maintenaince history is complete. It had 2 previous owners. So I checked all the paper work. Welcome Vince bike looks good, good choice in going for the 09 they do not have the same reputation as the 08 for oil consumption.
Looks like it's in nice condition. Idle speed does look a bit high to me. Probably doing a cold start, but I'd expect it to drop below 1.5k rpm when warm, nearer 1200rpm. I ran a 2008 for 2yrs, rode all year round, didn't miss a beat or drink any oil. Just putting it out there. Then had a 2010 that I kept for 4yrs, same again. Rode it year round and only ever put fuel and tyres on it and paid for standard servicing.
thanks for your comments, I read that some forum members specifically choose the 2011 non ABS model? Because of a better crankshaft what causes problems? Of is this very rare?
Love the colour. Sounds great you want to get it hot turn it off and then restart it, to check for camchain clatter.
sounds normal. the idle is way above normal (11~1300rpm) unless the engine was cold when you shot the video. You may have to budget for sand blasting the silencer and repaiting it with more durable finish. I also have no oil burning issues with my RR8. I believe the flywheel mass was increased in 2010> models
I asked the seller to send the fin. And now it turns out to be a 2008 model which was registered in 2009 . Now I doubt whether to go for this motorcycle.
is dit niets voor je is een 2009 model zelfde model als ik heb https://link.marktplaats.nl/m193096...tm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios
The earliest 2008s had problems with the clutch basket driven gear. That was fixed by Honda on a service call. Some (mostly in America) had the drive gear on the crank fail due to inadequate hardening treatment. They sound horrific when that goes so you would know straight away. Honda paid for new cranks. The oil burning seems random, my 2017 uses a little and it seems maybe related to the original owners riding too slow. I don't believe the 2008 is any worse than the others, I had 2 2009s and they were about the same. The 2010 got a heavier crank to smooth inertial torque according to Honda Marketing. This was a cheap reply to the Yamaha cross plane crank. From 2012 the bodywork and digital clocks are the obvious difference but more significant is the upgrade to Showa big piston forks and twin tube shock. At 32K I would be looking at fork seals, chain & sprockets, and brake lines/seals. If the engine had oil and water then it will be fine.
