What would you consider 'low mileage'? My 2011 recently went through a 16,000 service with no cam chain problems. From what I am aware, I have not heard of cam chain probs associated with the 1 litre Blades. (I exclude the early Blades because I have no knowledge at all of them)
No mate, it’s used lol. I’ve put nearly 40k on it from new.. cam chain tensioners do get noisy after 10-12k miles. If you va slight rattle at around 4-6k revs, or coming down the revs, then the cct needs replacing. If you wear earplugs, you won’t hear it.
I had 2 replaced over 50k on my 2011 but I seem to remember Marion having one on a newish Blade with only a few k on...replaced under warranty I think. Also I think one at 6k. Agree with Si above about the rattle/replacing. It's not a dear job anyhow.
That's interesting. I'd readjusted my longevity projections after viewing news reports of Grace Jones celebrating her 112th birthday earlier this week. My original ideal was to receive King Wills' telegram on my 100th. By that time, of course, I would have curtailed my bike collecting habits, but instead taken to embroidering cat cushions and crocheting lap blankets for my care home companions. I'm sure I would have left the forum by then too, my psychological status having taken a massive hit from further unjustified downvotes!
I’m on my 3rd on my 2012, they have been known to fail after as little as 2k on some former members bikes, the part itself has been updated at least twice now also
Bloody hell. I'm just about to start mine up in the lounge room and satisfy myself it's alright!! I had no idea that this was a recognised 'concern' (rather than problem).
Which is why I only listen to people who use them because if you don’t you won’t know what goes wrong with them.
Mine went around 24k miles on my 14 plate, but my 04 did over 55k without a problem, well apart from the electrical ones!!
Damn! I'm giving up. Now I gotta check my RR4's electrics! This might be reinforcing my theory that if I don't ride them, I won't have problems!!
If you have not yet replaced the gen and flywheel you are lucky - I got mine rewound first time as no one else had heard of the problem, but second time it was a more well known issue and Honda replaced it under warranty. The first time it went was around 30k miles, as I had a few VFR's before I thought it was the standard Reg/Rectifier issue, but quickly worked out differently! What about the clocks, has yours been replaced They were recalled on 04 Blades!!
Mine's not yet hit 6,000 miles, but, tacho reads 2000 revs over actual. Sits at zero with ignition off, but once switched on begins at 2000 rpm
Unfortunately not. I'm living with it at the moment because the bike's not used much. One of those things that will cost heaps to fix for little gain.
Just had the zingy rattle of death this week from my CCT. 2014 14k miles Then found out that the Robbing Bar Stewards otherwise known as Honda UK now want £103 for one, that's nearly doubled in the last 6 years or so. Just ordered one in the US at just over half the price that I will pick up at the end of the month when I am over there.
I work fo v.a.g parts we sold four years ago for £75. Are now going out at £145. Exactly the same part still fails loads .wish i earned that much more. I need to change mine on my rr4 i think .
