Hi, Santa has said he is going to get me a digital slr this year but as a complete newbie to photography I'm unsure as to which model to get. After looking on jessops I'm swaying towards the canon 550d or the 1100, mainly because of the deals with 2 lenses and they both seem to get good reviews online, Has any one got either of these? Or can you recommend a different one? Cheers guys and gals
Only just started myself Matt, I got the 650D and I can't fault it. Taking some getting used to shooting in different modes, but it's like anything I guess? Practice makes perfect. The Beauty of the SLR world is you can rattle thousands of frames off and delete the ones you don't need without the exspence of developing. And belive me, I've fired loads to the recycle bin. Lol. Just got my remote for it too so I'll be taking it all into work tonight and have a play. There are plenty of guys on here with some good information. Check out some of the other threads on here, they may be of use to you?
hello mate my limited knowledge says they have both been around awhile now but would go with the 550d as a better spec camera would also say the lenses you will get with these are what they call kit lenses, not the quickest, not image stabilised which can be handy until you get used to hanling the bigger lense make sure you have a good look around as there are loads of deals on those two models, might be woth buying the body only then better quality second hand lenses? there are a few on here who like there photography and know a bit aswell so they will be along soon for a bit of advice
Yea after I posted this thread I looked at the bottom of the page and the similar threads section are full of useful advice,
Got a D5000..........with a Sigma lens.............Cant fault it. (Always had Nikon so cant comment on other makes)
same here, just treated myself to a new D5100 and three new lenses ...it is xmas afterall. and mat yes the D3200 is a great wee camera.plenty of nice functions to keep you busy.
I have just treated myself to a Nikon 5100 and a fast 50mm lense too....................it is xmas afterall pmsl
Well if the weather next season is same as this year then we can have a photography wknd somewhere and leave the bikes in the garage
I ended up with the Nikon 3200, so far so good, the other half is amazed at how much better the pictures are
got lucky myself too, got given a Canon EOS600D from my Wife! Woop Woop, just got to remember how to use it now lol
I'm going the Panasonic GX1 route and going to get a 3 4th lens adaptor to A type so I can use my Konica lenses. Hope it gives the results I want. which is mainly for track side pics. I have a good distance lense that gave me good results with my konica Minolta
Was playing silly buggers with my new little Fuji last night. Hand held, full numpty mode pointing at the moon. Okay, no decent exposure as such but I haven't found the HDR button yet but no camera shake, Jupiter appeared as a dot, not a dash, perfect white balance, no fuss, no hassle. I'm thinking my years of learning camera craft have now been rendered obsolete by technology. At last, I might take a decent picture.
Just been searching through a lifetime of kit looking to see if I had a 58mm skylight and started to feel sorry for the executors of my estate. There's enough kit there to run a medium sized market stall for the day. I've kept every camera I've owned. There's 4 SLR bodies, 2 rangefinders, my DSLR, 2 digital compacts and now my new bridge. Lenses for each, 4 different mounts, even some that don't fit any of them, Cliff knows what was going on there. Flash guns! Why did I need so many flash guns! More filters than a Starbucks warehouse. (No fecking 58mm skylight though). My first camera ever, a nasty little Diana POS that oddly is now enjoying a renaissance amongst the next breed of photo unintelligensia who are mistaking bad quality for style. More lens caps than I've every owned lenses...........? Rolls of exposed film, some of which aren't made anymore (must get around to that). I'm beginning to wonder about OCD again. But the upshot is that its probably best not to ask my advice on cameras as it obvious I've never been able to make up my bloody mind.
