Anybody know what exactly the cameras I'm spotting more and more of are actually doing ? They are a small white camera appearing on lampposts , mate of mine reckons they are police survelance cameras ?
If they are police cams which they probably are, then they're there because of issues in the area such as anti social behaviour..pint & a fight night etc. They're not monitored but just record so if you decided to run down the road in your underpants & frighten some old lady they could pull the footage & come spank your bottom .....don't worry...you won't get 3 points or have to attend another course if you whizz thru em at warp speed
Mates had ideas about them Monitoring traffic levels Monitoring movements of certain vehicles , ie stolen ones etc Known accident black spots Dunno if they take stills or are constantly recording video Bit puzzling as nobody seems to know 100% about them
Right it's one of 2 things... its either a Urban traffic control camera which monitors traffic obviously re build ups/ accidents etc so traffic signals can be altered & so on or its what I said previously. It's not a surveillance or vehicle checking system such as anpr.
Ps..Some cities have websites where you can log onto the UTC cameras and watch the traffic...If you're really really bored
Councils have more cameras than Plod does. Have a look around as I believe organisations have to say where you can go to check footage etc.
If you really are that mystified as to who is running them and whether they are monitored, you could always stand in front of one and "choke the chicken" , and see who turns up...
