I replaced a couple of valve shims that were just barely out of spec & reinstalled the cams. No issues. Now, I find it impossible to get both gears on the cams with the chain around them! The frame wraps so closely around the gears, that I can't find the sequence to this puzzle and the Honda service manual gives no clues. I wonder if the cam chain tensioner is stealing just enough slack to prevent assembly. I removed tensioner assembly and possibly, the internal assembly leaning against the chain is preventing enough of the chain to be available for the intake cam sprocket. Once I get the intake sprocket on, I cannot get the exhaust sprocket on with the chain! Thanks for any and all rapid responses.
Have you removed the holding tool off the cam chain tensioner (CCT) already? You should have removed the CCT bolt, wound it clockwise then held it with the tool? If you haven't done this then I presume the CCT has added tension back onto your chain preventing you getting the sprockets back on?
Sorry, just re read your post. Your CCT is completely removed and you still don't have enough movement?
I have just rebuilt my top end on my bike I put the Exshaust cam in first have a little slack at the back of the cam with the time if chain and then fit the inlet cam it’s very fiddly too do it took me a couple of hours too figure it out
