I have a 31 mile commute, much of it on unlit roads. I'm finding that quite a few of the headlights coming towards me are far too bright, even on dip beam it is hard to see where you are going, it's even harder if it's a high vehicle such as a Range Rover or a lorry.
I did wonder if it was my age but I have spoken to a 23 year old lad that works with us and he says he has the same problem.
TBH my own car has amazing LED headlights and I do get flashed quite a lot. I have had them checked and their alignment is fine. They are just too bright.
Anybody else have the same problem?
PS I'm commuting in the car, not on the bike.

Are they height adjustable from a switch in the cabin as it could be that they're set high.
If not, leave them as they are and just flash the other drivers back. They'll soon realise that they got it wrong.
Fortunately not a problem in my car as it they dip when an oncoming car is detected.

In my humble opinion the LED headlamps fitted by manufacturers in general are pants. They make a very bright light so you can be seen literally from a country mile away, but illuminate the road ahead poorly. My merc lights can be seen from the international space station I’m sure, but the light they through out is piss poor by comparison. Was the same with my Mazda and in fairness as bad on the Volvo and Range Rover my colleagues drive.

Same with these new street lights - massively intense source at the top of the pole but you drop something on the floor and you’ve got to get the torch on your phone out to find whatever it is you’ve dropped.

Daft thing is I’ve seen some really good LED’s fitted as conversions/upgrades to both cars and bikes from independent specialists.

Is it a Merc? The fecking LEDs on those things should be made illegal, they are a danger to all road users.

Typically LEDs are not as bright as HIDs, just a whiter light, that’s why most do not have headlamp washers due to the lumen output being lower than the Euro regs of 2000 lumen, whereas HIDs are greater than that.

My Fiesta ST has LEDs and I never get flashed even on auto high beam when they have to dip, so IMO it’s all down to the design of the reflectors as to whether oncoming vehicles get blinded or not.

I commute into leeds each day on the blade and the led light are horrible this time of year add a visor in the rain and its really blinding some times. I've taken the mirrors off as when filtering or at traffic lights it was so anoying. Merc and new transit the worst of and some citroen but don't know model its too ugly for me to work out. Hurry up spring !

LED's are terrible here too. Blinding when they're on-coming and just as bad when they're behind you.

I thought it was just me that gets annoyed by folk fitting excessively bright bulbs. Glad to hear it's not. There is just no need for it on dipped beam.

Whilst we're at it.... Knobheads who drive round with fog lights on when it's not foggy grrrrrr!!! Then there are the tossers who just drive round with daytime running lights on even when it's pitch black!!!

With so few traffic police around and the ones that are around not having enough time for nitty gritty it's no surprise these things are going on.

I once saw an infomercial on German TV when I was over there, it was appearing to show dos and donts of various scenarios on the roads. Would love something like that on our tele.

There's a letter dieing to be written to the transport secretary suggesting it. You could sell it as a cost saving exercise because we will see less accidents, less road rage and less congestion if folk knew how to use our shitty roads a bit more considerately. Just need someone who's good at letter writing and has lots of time on his hands to implement it. ( @nigelrb )

Why is it that I'm so misunderstood?;)

I'm fine with the letter writing, but lots of time on my hands? Bloody hell, I have all my forum 'responsibilities' on here and others to keep you guys and gal entertained and on your toes; I have bikes to clean and re-clean - only to get them dusty on my now famed 30-mile loops; I have gym and fitness responsibilities to maintain my Brad Pitt-morphing-into-George Clooney-looks; and then what time's left actually resembles some sort of a life:rolleyes:.

Anyway, I'm all 'lettered out' of late after being shafted (in concert with a familiar forum member) by a courier company which claimed to have lost a TRACKED parcel sent from only two hours away up north. And no, it wasn't @Lozzy 's Christmas gift:(.

It may only be two hours away but it might have to go to a central hub in New York first.

I really do hope that you're not suggesting that our favourite New Yorker @Spygoat is involved in a parcel conspiracy?:D
