Bought some carbon fiber side panels for my 07 blade. They seem to be an ill fit compared to the OEM plastic ones. I have added some pics of the fitting. I won't at this stage say where I purchased them as gotta see what they say. Had anybody else experienced this and how was it rectified. These parts are not cheap and should fit correctly in my opinion. Also the lower side panel...appears clip on but not sure if it has a screw behind it. Is this the case and do you have to remove tank to get to it ?? Thanks guys.
If by "lower side panels" you're referring to the small shaped plastic at the bottom of the tank, then yes, these attach to the tank cover itself, and you'll need to remove the tank cover to change them. Can't help on your fitment issues... I got replacement plastic trims with my cheap chinese fairing and fitment of these was excellent (unlike the fairing itself....)
Carbon fibre is laid by hand into a mold so you will get some ill regularity between parts which is deemed acceptable! unlike plastic which is blown/injected into a mold I had to file a few holes on my complete fairings which are all carbon
Do you think I should request a replacement first as if I file them and it still looks shite I can't send them back. Do you mean filing the two little lips that slip in ?
If you are not happy with the fitment then give the seller a call to discuss. They may well agree and offer to replace or as others have said, if may be acceptable as carbon is rarely a real good fit. Difficult to say without seeing in the flesh. You cannot fill the gaps in as that would look awful. You either need to remove the tank cover again and see if you can shape the panels to fit better on the tabs or call up and ask for a replacement. I would discuss it with the seller in the first instance
As above call seller first! See what they say Then I'd file the slots they fit into to see if you can align better
Yep was gonna speak to seller. They may advise what had been suggested that carbon replacement isn't perfect but if you look in pictures id rather stick with OEM rather than spend £120 on panels that look shite lol. I would file the slots as SPS suggested if I think it would work.
Yes, same issue with mine but after a anger management i did force them to fit. Ok now but not like the original plastic. I think tou need to 'mould' them with your hands to adjust with the tank curves and sliwly you'll make progress. Strong double sided tape and ready. This is what i have done anyway
I have never had any carbon fibre that had a good fit, always had to use the dremel on it. Still working on this side, I have some carbon wrap that I am going to test out on some of the oem plastic just to see what it looks like and then how it degrades when fitted to the bike.
Yep they attach to the tank cover itself... you'll have to take the tank cover off to change. It's very simple, 4 screws... refitting can be a faff due to the rubber around the filler cap.
Spoke to the supplier and he agreed that either I could have complete refund (very fair) or I suggested he refunded half the amount and I faff around with it to make it fit which he agreed (again very fair)
