Hi, I've got a track day booked at Castle Combe on my new 2012 Blade, and have just noticed that the Castle Combe web site says my bike may be too noisy even with the standard factory exhaust. I'm a bit worried now, and was just wondering if anyone has passed the noise test at this track on this bike before. Cheers
Welcome to the forum, please say hi in the newbie board Castle combe says 105 db and with a standard can you may think thats fine But they don't test like other circuits. it's 3/4 revs at 1/2 a meter. my 2011 blade will not get on with a standard can. And why i'm looking at a custon with JHS racing to get it on at castle combe. Also my local circuit most circuits are say 5-6000revs at 3/4 meter. Not the 9000 combe would be asking for. What did you book? and where in Bristol are you
Thanks Remal, I've posted on the newbie board and am a north of the river Bristolian. Sort of. I'm booked on for the 7th May, but I'll try to get over on April 12th to get noise tested and see what my prospects are. If it doesn't look good I may have to take my old ZX7R instead. The web site also says that Merlin Motorsport may be able to help.
I never really check but if it redlined at 12 then 3/4 is 9k, and why it's hard to get on . I'm in Hanham mate, if u ever fancy a gental run out give me a shout
Think the Ducati will be a no go as well even with the baffles in the open clutch puts out more than 105 db lol, shame as its the only local ish track. Went there on the 99 R1 a few years back and TBH it is run very badly, we only got 10 min sessions and they ran 5 groups of mixed abbilities, so its not good value, they seem to care more about the money they can make rather than it being a good day for the riders, which is a big shame imo. Any excuse for a pic
Combe has always been a joke, I wouldnt consider the place, ridiculous noise limits aside, its one of the least interesting tracks to ride in the UK. I live 10mins from the place & use Mallory/Snet or Cadwell. I've heard of plenty std bikes being kicked out over the years.
Jamie works I Filton. And yes look forward to a meet up this year. Evo, lots have said this to me in the past. I love Combe as its my local track but don't blame the circuit for the noise limits. I loved and helped campaign against the locals who got rid of the GT racing. Bastards
I didn't realise the twats managed to stop the class altogether. Grr, its the non locals who buy into the place, knowing full well the circuit is there....
agreed, Stopped about 8 years ago because of about 10-20 locals. been a track for over 50 years and a Airfield for much longer before so No locals should have a right to complain really. Next it's the asses who don't like the bells ringing at the chruch on a Sunday FFS
I spoke to a neighbour this weekend who had a fireblade a couple of years ago, and he confirmed that his failed the noise test at Castle Combe. So I took my old ZX-7R for a quick spin to get reaquainted in anticipation of using that, and it now feels like a right lump by comparison. At least I have a couple of European track days booked for later in the summer, where they're not so particular about noise.
For anyone still interested, I got my bike tested on Friday. 111.6db at 9750 rpm. That's on the standard 2012 exhaust. And the bike got really really dirty on the run out to the track.
I have their car one which still did not help my kit car. but interesting to know the result which seems bloody high but i know they test different than most of other circuit
Their limit is 105 db at 3/4 of max revs, measured 0.5m from the exhaust exit. It's tricky holding an exact rpm when the engine is not under any load. I know I hit 10,000 rpm at one point, but hopefully this wasn't when the measurement was taken.
