the big issue for me would be is there a certificate of destruction? why was it a catb in the 1st place, are all the numbers on the headstock ground off giving you no traceability.I'd be very very wary (to the point of not buying one myself).plus iof you have no proof or record of it's history your open to a lot of headaches at tackdays (and no club will let you race with it either) if the police turn up for a random check, which they have been known to do from time to time. so in short,i'd stay clear
any body apart from Yorkshiregooner (not online much) involved with the salvage reclaimation of bikes ? could do with having a chat if possible please ..
Cat b bike will/should still have numbers unless it's been stolen recovered or tampered with . As said its been cat b for a reason but I've saw cat b just because a hanger lug has snapped etc . The bike will of had a COD certificate of destruction this is something that should come with bike . Copart used to ask for the headstock to be chopped but all changed all they need is a copy of the COD . They also state that it does not need to be broke for doares but should be . That's why cat b bikes still do more money than they should. A full reciept from the auction that sold it is always the best as it gives reg and chassis etc . I had a cat b bike checked at cadwell all good as I had the copart reciept .
wedgie the guy says he has the receipt from auction, the bike was flipped rear sub frame bent and all plastics trashed hence cat b, he doesn't have the c.o.d does that sound reasonable ? if I go for it am I leaving myself open to trouble further down the line ie - police checks at tracks, resale etc.. or does it all seem above board and nothing to worry about ?
If the reciept has the original reg number on it shouldn't be a problem as you can HPI it make sure it's even a cat b make sure numbers look fine and match the reciept check that subframe mounts on frame haven't been welded back on and if they have its not a massive problem but will make it cheaper . COD came into effect 2011 so if it was cat b before this it may never of had one . Ask for reg is should be on receipt and do a cheap text hpi check first make sure it is cat b and go from there .
