Hi, Comparing mileage with my mates zx10 after a run my 2006 Blade over reads. Checked my speedo against GPS speed tonight. 70mph indicated on the bike is only 62.5mph GPS speed. Bike is over reading by about 11% . Standard sprockets and a half worn 190/50/17 Tyre. I did some maths and a 190/55/17 tyre would help the indicated speed by 3%. But speedo would still be 8% out. Is this size of error (11%) normal for a 2006.
Most speedos have a built in error where they over read by roughly 10% so yours doesn't sound to far out to be honest! A number of things can also affect it! Tyre wear, tyre pressures, ambient temperature etc At least with it like it is you'll never get done for speeding My RR8 with 50 profile tyres at indicated 40mph in speedo was doing a gps speed of 36mph, with 55 profile the same indicated 40mph was a gps speed of 39mph
thanks for the reply, I've ordered a Speedohealer from a French Ebay seller, £15 cheaper than the one and only UK dealer. I always let my indicated speed creep up past the speed limit as I know the speedo is way out. I would prefer to know exactly what speed I'm doing and keep a few miles off the bikes clocks. My indicated 70mph is only 62/63mph on the gps. True 70mph is more like indicated 78mph, a few mph I could take but that's too much for me. Once sorted, I will need to recalibrate myself for indicated speeds when entering my favourite corners.
My RR8is about ten percent out, keeps you safe from them cameras, all standard, if gps speeds are to be believed
with this "error" my bike would indicate it's "top speed" at a true 161mph. I have a whole new respect for 200mph road racers going through speed traps.
