Having missed out on colins chain guards :-(. I've been looking at the rizoma ones. Expensive bug look good Does anyone run without any guard? As the bike looks better without it. Just removed mine to have a look!
Yeah, my lad does, on his CG125. Although it will pass the MOT without a chainguard, it is against the law to ride without one. He doesnt care though, he is too busy being excited about riding round with about 11bhp under his right wrist instead of the 4bhp of his 50cc scooter had.
Against the law? But will pass a MOT? How does that work!?? Do you have a link to the legalilties regarding a chain guard?
Doubling the power does put a big grin on amigo. I nearly trebled mine when I bought the blade and I'm still getting saliva in my ears now.
Thats not correct The law is that if you have 1 fitted that is not fitted correctly or damaged then its a fail no guard at all and its a pass
The MOT test is a roadworthyness test, the law is something different. My 250LC race bike passed a daytime MOT test with no speedo, lights or indicators, i dont think that had a chainguard either, no problem. I dont have a link because i cant be arsed to look for one, but if my MOT tester says you dont need one for an MOT but you do need one in law, i believe him.
Any idea what the law says? Because he was quite confident that the coppers could do you for not having one!
WHO-WHOOOO!! He is completely legal then, thank you very much, i will use this to beat his step dad senseless, the tosser beleives everything "Bloke down the pub" tells him, like "If you've got no tax, your insureance is invalid and they can seize youe bike", yeah, only if it is unroadworthy, but he forgot that bit.
My first quotes where actually what the MOT sheets ask for . I know because i had no chain guard on my last bike and on its first mot i asked about all the parts i wasn't sure would pass and the examiner showed me the criteria on the garage computer . he showed me a few loop holes like that actually . As for what the law says . I doubt there is a written law for motorcycle chain guards at all . Im not a copper and have never studied uk laws so i don't have a clue , or a care for that matter . Im simply sharing info i have had from an MOT tester and a police officer . With that info you may do what you like cheers
There is a lot of confusion caused by some of the wording of what is and what is not legal. Having a "correctly installed thingamajig" is not the same as "must have a thingamajig". It just means that if there is one it must have bolts of the correct type in all the holes.
I for one, have always thought it illegal not to have a chainguard at all, just goes to show that, all you believe may not be true. Maybe a bloke in a pub told me so a long time ago, i liked him, and he liked me, so, we danced for a while..........
