Picking up my new blade on Monday and I'd like to invest in a chain lock of some sort, the one the dealer is pushing my way is an Oxford Revolver, so I can strap the bike to a bike rack or lampost when Im out shopping. I know 'if they want it, they will get it' however we can all but try to slow down the process. Anyone have a recommendation? Something you may have used and has served you well.
I use and Almax, have done for years but I only use it at home, never park my bike anywhere other than home or the secure car park at work. Found this on the web; Series III: 1.0m 3.4kg 1.5m 5.1kg 2.0m 6.8kg 2.5m 8.5kg Series IV 1.0m 6.5kg 1.5m 9.7kg 2.0m 13 kg 2.5m 16.25kg + 1kg for a Squire lock or 800g for a Cisa lock. I've got the Series IV through a ground anchor.
Also use an Almax chain with a Squire ss65cs lock. Awesome bit of kit but wouldn't want to take it out and about with me as its a weighty lump.
Thanks chaps, too heavy for a wimp like me then. What do you guys do them when you go to the supermarket or shops? Up to now, I've just put the steering lock on and parked right outside the front doors the larger supermarkets tend have a large frontage. Just not sure I'd want to do that with a new big bike. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid, mind.
Honda do a D-Lock that kind of fits in the tail under the pillion seat. It is quite small, not enough to lock to something. But it is a serious D-Lock, and I put it on either wheel. It is on mine at the moment. I got this thrown in when I bought the bike, but costs about £75 at the time.
I have one of those. Very handy when out. Just loops through the front wheel. Way better than a disc lock because it doesn't damage your callipers when you forget to remove it... Oops... Plus because it fits right under the rear seat you don't have to worry about carrying it.
Seeing the way locks are cut off and how heavy they are I have gone for an alarm system. I had the datatool 3 on my R1. Good system but the auto reset did my head in, everytime you stop for petrol etc the alarm sets, I just have a normal on or off alarm now,
I had a Kryptonite New Yorker d lock for the pedal bike. Fitted it to some gates when they were newly fitted but the lock messed up. Less than 2 minutes to remove it with an angle grinder, and that was being careful. On the upside Kryptonite honoured their guarantee and replaced it. Wouldn't one and expect it to do more than annoy the toe rag thiefs.
I know, what can you do. I used a cable for a while on the basis that it was better to lock it to something - but that is probably a waste really as bike thieves will probably have an angle grinder as part of their 'bike thieving kit' anyway.
They do some awesome cordless grinders nowadays, thats why at home I have plenty of security lights and a few alarm systems before the bike goes, and thacham approved ground anchor,
I have panicked about my Blade since my mates was stolen. i now have a ABUS Granit City Chain 1010 under my pillion seat and both bikes are chained together... not the lightest to be that big up on the bike but would rather have my bike still there when I go back to it.
