Time to change my chain on the cbr 954, but should it be X ring or O ring , and what does DID mean is that just a make ?? I guess it's best to change the sprockets at the same time. Does anyone know wether the front sprocket is left or right handed thread

Either x or o ring will be compatible . X rings apparently improves retention of the grease within the chain and higher performance in high stress situations so last longer. I went with the marketing bull and went with the X ring! .DID is a brand, many manufacturers including Honda use them as standard. Unlike most other brands they use a soft rivet which make the chain way easier to fit.

The thread on the front sprocket is the normal thread eg anti clock to loosen. Mine was easily removed with a 750mm breaker bar and stomping on the rear brake.

I did this last week - DID kit (contained JT rear and another brand front sprocket) with a DID type tool.

I undid the sprocket bolt with a 3/8" drive 12 point socket and an adaptor. After I'd bought a new sprocket bolt, I used a deep six point 1/2" drive and extension to do it up. I then wondered why I hadn't undone it this way in the first place....

Have some degreaser standing by. I was surprised at the amount of chain lube and dirt inside the swingarm.

In my humble opinion DID X ring Gold are the best chains you can buy. I got over 25,000 miles outta mine.

My chain is goosed 12 links seized - Just came to undo the front sprocket with no joy, will have to get a better fitting socket 14mm cant be right..Does it come OFF anti clock wise ??

Can i ask if the front sprocket is a loose fit ?? mine feels somewhat like the Key way is worn !!

Yes it should come off anti clockwise. From new they aren't fitted that tight. It is normal for the front sprocket to be a loose fit (or that's how it was on my RR6 and RR8).

If a Chain & Sprock lasts 25K I doubt I'll ever fit one as I'll have swapped out by then! :)
