OK well, my bike is within its three month warranty period. The dealer said they would check the bike over and service it. Recently I noticed the gear box getting notchy. Mentioned it here. Of course everyone said check the chain. I HAD .. or so I thought .. I just went out to the bike and did it properly on the paddock stand. TIGHT SPOTS LOOSE SPOTS.. Dammit OK, I know this happens. But its 11K on a the original chain, within the wear marks, but the rear sprocket is scooping slightly on the teeth.. showing wear. Am I right to ask them to consider doing the chain and sprockets as part of the original thorough service they should have give it. Not to mention I've seen 109 degrees on the engine temp and have yet to see the second fan kick in.
Wouldn't hurt asking the dealer to change as good will but deffo your warranty will not cover it. You could even go half way and buy the parts and they fit? Mine was shot at 12k about 2 month into my warranty but decided to fit a proper after market chain and sprocket myself. (Tsubaki gold X ring and supersprox). 8k later zero tight spots!. It does get regreased twice a week and totally cleaned every month though. Re fan, yeah get that checked out, mine kicks in about 106 which is pretty much all the time at the moment
I have less miles than that and my chain has about had it, and im not the only one.my friends 2010 model has a shagged chain after 4k miles.maybe its the very bumpy roads over here or just the standard kit is pants?
I love every bit of my 2012 bike but the chain & sprockets are pants they have showed pitting, I did mention it to the dealer but they didn't really do much. I will invest in a decent chain but with only 3k on the clock it seems a bit of a waist to do it just now. Ozz
If i was you id be changing the set asap. I had tight spots on my storm chain after the winter lay up... Cleaned and lubed it, only for it to snap 300 mile later, writing off the engine. Fortunately i was only pulling away from a junction at low speed but had been hooning over denbigh moors all day Doesnt bear thinking about. Id be very surprised if the chain set is covered by warranty as its a.consumable like tyres and pads
That's pretty scary mate. good job it didn't go whilst you were hooning! Do you mind if I ask what the snapped chain did to kill the engine?
it felt like it had just come out of gear.... when i went to pull the clutch in, the lever went to the bar, looked down and the sprocket cover& clutch slave were flapping about, oil pissing out of the pushrod hole. it honestly felt like the cahin had just dropped off, i didnt feel a bang or awt, but it had whipped round and smashed all the lugs off that hold the casing and slave on, ripped the pushrod out of its hole and mullered the oil seal, sawn a nice chunk out of my left can, smashed the hugger to fk and also went through the undertray and bit into the wiring harness on the ecu 16 pin plug :/ so in short - it was fucked lol! whats more... this was 6pm on a saturday and my recovery ran out at midnight lol - talk about cutting it fine! it was the side plates of the chain that had broke. i found the broken link embeded in the hugger and it looked like the rivet had been broke for a while as it was snapped in the middle but the 2 ends were finely polished.... this would explain the tight spot, as the rivet was bent, just holding the plates together until the end! so. word to yer mutha. go get anutha! * last time i had a chain snap btw i was mid-air on a dt250 yam and the chain and shocker top linkage broke.... i only had trainers on and it sawed a flat off my ankle lol! :/
