Ended up riding through a local town, known for its entirely SHITE road layouts and traffics systems. Namely Guildford.
If anyone responsible for this is reading. You should f_cking resign.
Anyway .. multiple red lights, and it seems my '10 plate blade rising to 109 degrees! .. Can't hear the bloody fan ..???
No wash of hot air .. just keeps climbing ...lucky for me, last set of lights and off I went ..

Are the supposed to get this hot?

I don't want a warped head or blown head gasket.

Its still under warranty from the dealer, so I want to get any probs sorted smartish :)

    Cheers Peeps..

    Jake

I commute into central London and on HOT days, stuck there at traffic lights, my 08'll get to a MAX of 109c. Never seen it get above that as the fans are running keeping it at that point. Do have a Rad Guard which may be attributing to that though.

I've noticed that the fans kick in at anything above 103c.

I get to about 104/5 when the fan kicks in. As already said a rad guard sometimes restricts airflow and so temp goes up quicker.

Yeah Fan kicks in around 103 or 104... Mine never climbed past 107, fan brings it back to about 105, within a couple seconds moving, right back down to under 100...

I ride in traffic ALOT in London, and am thinking of a manual fan switch, that will still allow the thermostat to kick in the fans, just so I can put on the fan before it gets to 100, when i know i am stopping at a light...

EDIT - Dealer as well as the manual says if you see 120 or was it 125 then switch it off.

I'm suspecting if it's not working as expected that it's the thermoswitch. Rather than the ecu gulp. I've heard that some ultra modern bikes delete this function to the brain rather than a thermoswitch.

Would the HRC thermostat help solve this??

The fan on my 2012 kicks in on the dot of 100. Worth checking I guess.

mine gets to 106 if waiting at the lights a while... thats with an evotech guard.
interesting though... i just put a racefit exhaust on and it's running a lot cooler since - wondering if the oem cat holds the hot gases in or sumat.... defo running cooler with the free flowing exhaust

not sure yet cos i havent looked... but on all the other recent hondas ive had, ignition advance / retard is partly controlled by coolant temp - if the engine is too hot it will retard the ignition slightly to compensate, and so reduce power output....

so imo it makes good sense to try keep the temps down.
for that reason i fitted a second fan on my storm, with a separate stat.
    just a thought like....

Yes, Evotech Rad guard on mine puts Av temps up 3-4 degrees, can't say I've seen above 106 though in traffic

Well, I just went out to test it, let it come of choke and idle for a good while, with the occasional blip to speed the process ..
First Fan comes on at 102 dead. Two fans .. no sign of needing the second one, so God only knows how it got to 109 the other night ..
Gonna have to keep an eye on this. Another trip through Guildford is in order ..
