Cleaning !!!!

Probably the worst thing about owning a bike is cleaning it, what's the best and fastest way to clean it and what products would you recommend
Bought this yesterday thought I'd give it a go today

 

I mainly use muc off. The SDoc 100 stuff is pretty good too but is more expensive.
Cleaning a motorbike is never a quick job!

 

Does any one use a jet wash or just the hosepipe? ?????

 

I always use muc off, but you're paying thru the nose for that size. If you use it regular like me it goes down quick! Save the spray bottle when it's empty & check your local bike shops for deals on the 5lt containers...I've just bought 2 for the price of 1 at CMC dealers, you should be able to find similar deals elsewhere. In winter I coat the whole bike with acf5 & then just do a quick spray down with water only during a weeks commute & then a good wash at the end! Acf50 is great product if you riding through winter I can't recommend it highly enough

 

Haha, i am about to do the same today! I have used the pink cleaner before and is quite good. But it dries off fast so make sure you spray some more if it does. Jet wash yes in the past but from a distance and avoid the electrical parts. Be gentle, no rush

 

I never use jet wash on a sports bike only hosepipe

 

Be aware with the jet wash as Lozzy suggested. I dont use a hosepipe as it cant reach the bike so hands on!! Cold, what cold, we're all nuts doing this with this weather ;-)

 

I buy 30 litre drums of general automotive degreaser which last me for years and costs a tiny percentage of the "designer detergents". I use this for the greasy bits and car shampoo for the paint work. I used a jet wash on my enduro bikes when I raced off road but not on road bikes.

 

Talking of nuts & cold weather ...that's something us ladieeez don't have a problem with

 

All done and clean now only took 2 hours but she's worth it
Even went back into the garage just to pat the tank

 

sdoc 100 , jet wash , snowfoam , jet wash clean , metro air blast dry , polish, chain lubed , bingo its done nice and clean. ive been looking for a course to do the acf spraying but cant find any.

 

All done too. Bike is spot on for another week. Pat on the tank...always, haha :-D

 

Just had a proper smile at that one. I'm still patting the tank but had forgot about the posts about it

 

I use a hozelock 5 litre pump to apply pressure spray ( you can get them from B&Q garden centre) to rinse/wet the bike. I then use good old bucket and sponge with turtle wax car shampoo, rinse off with the above, dry using a chammy leather. I them clean the outside of the chain with WD40 on a clean rag. Finish off buffing with 'stardust éclat' (speak to your dealers nicely) my bike is never anything else than 'converyer belt condition'

 

Ha...Im so glad you posted that! Went to B&Q yesterday to have a look at those Hozelock hand pumps as I thought it would be handy for the quick spray downs each day over winter, instead off having to lug me hose thru the garage at all hours. One of the staff said he wasnt sure if it would be powerful enough so I left it! I only want it to quickly wash the salt water off...I take it then from what you're saying that it'll be ok for that?

 

I tried a bottle of the Muc-off stuff and can't say I noticed it do a great deal.

Some Maguire's shampoo in a bucket, then Z6 and Z8 to finish off.

 

I'd thought about using one of those too, but as above, was not sure if it would do a good enough job.

 

Lozzy, no it's not powerful enought to remove dirt or salt so the bloke was right. I am a sunny day fairy who never rides his bike in winter.

 

Oh right Can anyone suggest a similar pump that will be stronger? Needs to be a hand one so I can quietly and quickly hose down as I come home sometimes in the early hours

 

An old stirrup pump is what you need....if you can find one.
