Well let’s start by saying a big hello to everyone ? Well it all started when got home from work yesterday and opened my post and at my dismay there was a bill for going though London for emissions! I thought that’s weird it’s been sitting in my garage in bits for months and I cancelled the insurance and tax and sorn it off the road about two months ago and the bill said that it was for going though London 2 weeks ago so I got straight on to dvla and they said that it sounds like it been cloned? I said it didn’t sound like it it has been! Because on the fine there’s a picture, and it does not look nothing like my bike ever did. ! So now the police are looking for the bike around the area bishop’s bridge road, London! So just thought I would share it with everyone! 9270F104-560F-4416-915B-C7A8714369BC.jpeg FB66C800-94E8-4CD0-9A1F-9AF2D7F7C927.jpeg

Are they still perusing you for the fine?
A few years ago my daughter had the same problem. Ie someone using false number plates.

It's a pain in the rear. Someone used my son's Polo no. plate to do some drugs related stuff. Police had the video of it happening with a totally different car make but still wanted statements about where we were etc. It makes you worried even if you are totally innocent.

This is why people usually blank number plates out on uploads to social media etc. they think it won’t happen to them and it usually won’t but sometimes it does.

I had the exact same thing happen to me I received a PCN for riding in a bus lane in Haringey in London, so I contacted my local police force and reported it to them, I live in Glasgow!!!! they gave me an incident number and I replied to Haringey, they then replied back that it wasn't enough evidence and still tried to pursue the matter, I ignored them and then and it took about a year until they finally left me alone. It's not nice thinking someone is riding around not paying insurance or road tax impersonating you getting up to God knows what.

Thanks for your reply’s. ! Well I’ve now thought about it and I’m going to pay the fine. I think it’s about £80. Because I’ve only got. Three more days then it goes up to £250. ! My biggest fear is that I don’t get points? ( speeding ). And now Don’t know what more I can do the bike is been sorn. (. Tax and dvla ). And I cancelled my insurance about 2/3 months ago? I’m just going to send all parties all pictures of my new bike witch I’m all legal on. And pictures of my old bike witch is in bits holding a newspaper for the date on , and then try and get my money back for the fine ?

If it wasn't you then don't pay the fine because of fear. You've already proved it wasn't you, or your bike, as it was SORNd and off road at the time. Paying the fine in some people's eyes would attach guilt, and if that other person is the DVLA then they will notify you to the police for driving an untaxed and uninsured vehicle (by paying the fine you possibly admitted it was you). And in the police state we live in today, AFAIK that can result in vehicle confiscation.

That said, I'm not a lawyer. But I know what I would do in the same situation.

One other thing. The plates in those pictures are clearly not the same. Look at the mounting points.

I can't tell that from the B/W pic. I'd have thought 929 riders would have more class than to clone someone else's plate

And he’s bike you can’t see the indicators. And. No reflectors on no plate ! I think my best bet will probably send log book off as a scraped bike ! Then at least it will not be in my name ! I really don’t know what more I can do, but I so glad that I don’t use it as a road bike anymore! And I cancelled everything 2/3 months ago ,

It's not your fine, don't pay it. It doesn't matter if the fine goes up, they'll have dealt with this before but are probably just slow getting past the initial monkeys. As long as you have told them it wasn't you then they would have to prove it was, and that ain't going to happen.

First thing you do is appeal the fine. That stops the clock.
Then I think you’ll find the onus is on you to prove it wasn’t you. I know innocent until proven…blah blah blah. But that is what you are best doing. If you can do this then you won’t have to worry about court.
    What colour is your bike?
Do you have pics of the bike in pieces with a date and time stamp in the metadata?
The more physical evidence you can come up with that proves it couldn’t be your bike the better. A SORN or cancelled insurance proves nothing.

First thing to do is stop the clock in writing. Either via email or recorded delivery.

If you pay you are admitting guilt in my opinion. What do you do if this idiot then runs some poor sod over? Take it back to the police and get it logged
