Police in Cumbria are clamping down on dangerous driving on the busy A66 by patrolling the road in an HGV . Code named Operation Natterjack this follows a recent exercise in Hampshire where 227 offences where recorded .So for our Lakeside comrades ( Kevin) beware either car or bike is fair game for this rather expensive toy.
Thanks for that been doing Lockerbie change overs all week thought I was spending Christmas Day on the A66 last night it was white over coming back poor sods stuck going North.
Been using it for a couple of months now...the previous premise was they were out to catch HGV drivers driving using their mobiles, watching TV etc, things that can be difficult to spot from low down in a patrol car etc. Just seems they like to blow council tax money on gimmics and expensive toys....eg:- Subaru WRX STi patrol cars, BMW M series cars, Jaguars of various flavours and various superbikes...of course all the above in plain clothes... North Yorkshire plod are just as bad, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo for example Cleveland have a few Transit vans in plain colours, Skoda Octavia VR6's, Focus STi's As an aside..these vehicles, like all police vehicles are insured 3rd party only, so guess who foots the bill for replacing them when they gets totalled....
Thanks for that....the sneaky, sneaky buggers....lol Suppose it works out a bit cheaper than putting a chopper up...think they are more accountable for their money these days..
If it stops all the tossers, using their phones, putting make up on, reading a road map etc, then I'm all for it.
