Cornering stability

Hey guys,

Just had my rear tyre replaced about 1000 miles ago as I seemed to have shredded a spot out of the old one...

I didn't watch the fitting so I have no idea whether the tyres are aligned and have the right counter weights but since having an S21 put on as a replacement I don't have much low speed control compared to the last one, feels like the front tyre is on ice (which was pretty squared off so that's probably why!) and when I lean round corners the handlebars try to turn quiet significantly to the point where I have to try to turn them the other way so they don't flop all the way to the side. Good job I'm not cornering fast due to the recent weather!

I've only ever had to replace tyres on my bikes twice so this may be normal with new tyres and I've just completely forgotten or could something more sinister be going on?

Tyre pressures are fine, no idea how to check the steering damper.

Do you have a s21 on the front....

 

I do not, the front tyre was fine so I left it, theres a Dunlop Sportsmart on it.

 

I am no expert but the 2 tyre patterns could be working against each other Dunlops very different to s21,....just my build....

 

I am no expert either, but with a history of three failed marriages I can say that mis-matched pairs usually present problems.

 

Might be worth checking its has been put on straight...they put a new rear one on mine after a blowout and my mechanic found it wasn't. ..you could certainly feel the effect of it in corners/roundabout's

 

Hang on, am I mis-reading this. Did you have a new front tyre or no? The front is squared off?

 

I would only ever have matched tyres, infact I only ever replace in pairs on the supersports, I have just replaced rears on the tourer
but always a direct replacement and a match for the front

 

Yes, I read it as 'squared off' and later saying 'it is fine'. And therein lies the problem.

 

My bad, I wrote then edited the post before I posted it! Front tyre wasn't changed and is fine, rear tyre was squared off and split

 

I have mixed different tyres with no problem. It could be the crown profile of the new rear is more pointed making the bike tip quickly compared to what you r used to.
I would also chek out the fitting as lozzy mentioned

You get so used to forcing a squared off tyre, you end up riding to the point where it does not drop, new tyre with correct profile, you still ride as per old tyre and are surprised when the bike tips quicker than you expect as it takes less input the the old tyre.
