Saw this on another site......very sad news

Some of the new laws include:

If the Guardia Civil observe a motoring offence and note the vehicle registration number, this provides sufficient evidence to prosecute. There is no need to stop the vehicle.

There will be a fine of €600 and a loss of six points for a ‘very serious’ speeding offence.

There is a loss of six points and a fine of €500 for lesser speeding offences.

Speeding fines can apply for exceeding the limit by just 1kph.

On some motorways the speed limit is being increased from 120kph to 130kph.

However, in some towns the speed limit is being reduced from 30kph to 20kph.
I am sure Spanish members can tell us how these are being implemented...

An EU Directive will be implemented so that driving offences committed in one EU country are reported to the EU country of registration of the vehicle in question.

Good luck with a prosecution. It's the same as speeding tickets for holiday hire cars to a certain extent. The UK forces cannot assume guilt as you have a right to plead not guilty where ever you live. Just ignore it unless you plan to go back.

It's more the bit that quotes' An EU Directive will be implemented so that driving offences committed in one EU country are reported to the EU country of registration of the vehicle in question.

The locals will be screwed in the same way that we can receive an NIP through the post, but i'd be surprised if they get money out of foreigners who refuse to pay.

Meh, when stopping in Andorra area on the way to spain on the black in 2011 the french and Italian's I met said how the Spanish are getting very hot on spot fine and speeding. Even more so that the french which at the time was hard to believe. But the only police I seen wanted us to go faster and not to nick us. Was easy doing over a 100 miles in less than a hour ;) on the open roads without a issue. But they may have got a bit harder on speeding etc....

But saying that it's a big country with lots of areas which are traffic free and your able to see no cars for mile upon mile

Police in Spain very hot on crossing solid white lines and speeding -

Re applying points the problem currently is that all countries have their own points system so it wont work - at least not yet

So they simply produce the credit card machine from the glove box and take payment there and then

Yes, I can confirm that is not good to cross a solid white line in full view of Polica Traffico.

It just seems that Spain needs the money and they ARE going to get it from motorists, it is a big country but then again they do who the popular routes that bikers use.

Humm, I live near to spain precisely 120 Km.
About two years ago the police stops me by speed excess in a highway toll. I had a discount of 40% by having to pay in that moment.
They give to me a paper with that points. Unfortunately the paper was to hard... (LOL)
They are particulary exigent near populated areas or in the villages.
For those who want more, it's better travelling by the highways (or use a small paper with a clip and a elastic wire...LOL).
    U get u pay it!

There is no agreement in place for convictions in one European country to take effect in all the others at the moment. It's almost certainly on their list but it's a way off yet. So it's only if you get stopped you need to worry. As Allblade says you will get an on the spot fine which can be quite steep.

Keep an eye out of helicopters. Two mate got done by a helicopter riding from the circuit at Aragon back to the hotel for not stopping at stop sign. It actually landed and the cop jumped out to booked them !

    £150 each

    LOL

I'm sure it was an exception. Spain can't afford the gas to keep a fleet of helicopters in the air for long.

Check mirrors before overtaking but that's obvious anyway.

But this is not common. I never saw a helicopter in Spain to control traffic, and i go there a lot of times.
Unless near a circuit because the guys are excited after races, with a high density of riders increasing the probability of getting some extra money. This is why it compensates all the costs to fly by helicopter to got done drivers.
