What's the current favourite favourite for a commuter tyre on a 2012 ABS Blade? The default Battlax 190/50ZR17 (Rear) that came on it has lasted about 5300 miles so far. The front is still good so so the new rear needs to (by preference) co-exist nicely with the battlax still on the front...

Any recommendations? I used to run Metzlers on my 600RR IIRC, but haven't needed to put new ones on the blade until now...

KentBlade... What do you run on your 2010? (I haven't seen it for a few weeks as I've been away, so couldn't take a look).

Personally if i got 5000 + miles from a rear tyre i would be over the moon, at that mileage i would be quite happy to replace the rear with the same tyre to keep it matched until possibly the pair need changing and then decide what tyre would be best suited for your needs.

Obviously that depends if you have enough life left in the front to keep it going till the new rear is worn

Almost all of my miles are commuting on the M4... I'd be lucky to get the bike lent over most days (Filtering tends to make you wary of that :) so all the wear is on the centre (Apart from one roundabout :)

Don't really want to spank £150 on a rear tyre same as the last one when I could get a better one for the same price (And the stealer doesn't think they're making the same tyre anyway).

Kiwi, same here being working abroad for a couple of weeks, but I have been running Pilot Road 3s, they are closing in on 9k now, reckon another 2k left in them, best tyre I have used on a Superbike, zero issues in last winters low temps, the only time i lost them was on mud in a lane near me, whilst lent over, the previous BT16Pro did 1600 as a comparison

Brilliant. Cheers for that. They've (SBK) quoted £160 fit and balanced... Will treat the bike to new oil and filter at the same time.

PR3 was the general consensus when I posted a similar question.
I'm doing a weekly commute up and down the M4, 400 mile round trip, done about 2k on them so far and they are very very good.

How on earth did you get that amount of miles from a rear tyre, did you push it everywhere?

My 12 ABS came with Bridgestone S20's, I managed 2700 from my first rear and 1700 on its replacement. Tried some Rosso Corsa's they only lasted 2800, the front was still not too bad after the second rear. Just had a set of 023's fitted, £206 fitted to loose wheels, so hoping they will last a bit longer.

Given what you got out of your rear, just get another of the same, it should need replacing about the same time as your front.

Its about time we stopped bigging up the PR3s, Michelin will drop them as they must be losing truck loads of sales as they last so long

I had the pr3's and they were ace. I'd also consider the Roadsmart 2 and definitely consider the Metzeler Z8. I really like my M5's.

In my experience over the last couple of years, BT023s last almost 5,000 miles on the back and about 7,000 on the front. They dull the steering a bit compared to the Dunlops my RR8 came on, but for a more than doubling of life and no worries about wet or dry road grip then I'm going to stick with quality sports-touring tyres -might try the Michelins next though, as everyone seems to love them. I never want to go back to tyres that are worn out in less than 2,000 miles - the inconvenience is just too much.

On previous bike I have always fitted Pirelli's and always the super soft variety as I never take the bike out if it is wet or freezing cold. Last two or three have been the Super Corsa BSB and they are very sticky and confidence inspiring but they don't last that long, circa 2000/2500 miles as Arthur said.

Got some Rosso Corsa's just before I sold my Ducati and I really liked them, felt similar to the BSB's, sold my bike not long after fitting them so not sure how long they would last but the Dunlops that came as standard fitment will be off as soon as the rear is gone. Will get this year and part of next out if yet though.

If someone said that you get 5000+ miles out of a tyre I would have it in my head that they were made of concrete and had no grip compared to what I would normally fit.

A lot of things about tyres is that you seen to get something in your head that they are crap and you lose confidence when committing to something when maybe they would be fine.

I am like this with the standard Dunlops, if I could afford it they would be off now and Pirellis fitted, maybe a 55 profile as people seem to like them. Really I should take the Dunlops off now as they have only done 500 miles running in and would probably go for good money still
