Thinking about ordering a clutch and generator cover from the usa as they are much cheaper but the dealer told me that i will have to pay customs charges to get them into the uk. does anybody know how much these charges are likely to be ?

When I bought Keith Code's two Twist of the Wrist dvds I had to fork out another £15.00 at the post office before they would release them!

    C. i could get my current ones sprayed black. that would work out cheaper than buying new ones then selling the old ones. might consider it

Trouble is it might look like you have come off and bodge jobbed it, also the plain black paint without the fleck may look a bit odd and out of place!

i dont mind paying the import duty as that works out to be about £15 but if i have to pay 20% VAT then it will start to get quite expensive

You'll get £100+ for the clutch cover side! And £60-£70 generator side!

Some deals look good until you get into the price of import etc, i know some dealers will book the price down lower than paid in some cases just to try a sweetner, but the fact is they still have to declare tax etc, i've thought about when i buy somthing from over the pond, to get my cousin who lives in the states to purchase it on my behalf, thus paying the correct tax at the items origin and then he can send it to me 100% as a gift, but im sure you still have to pay import tax that way too?
Some guys that have gone down this route will soon be here?

whatever you do dont get it via royal mail . those robbing gits charge you a £15 handling fee to get it through customs on top of any tax and import duty
i bought a £50 part from thailand ,with all the fees /taxes it cost me double that (the thing that really peed me off was the royal mail fee though)
