After my last session at donington on thursday the suspension guy notice cuts in my rear tyre. They are on both sides of tyre in the exact same place, same length. The one in the pic is the worse but I can see more faint cuts starting to show, again same place on the other side of the tyre. The tyres are maxxis supersport. Before you say anything I know , I know. I always get asked why Ive got them on. They were cheap Obviously they need changing but I was wondering has anyone come across this before. The suspension guy wasnt too sure. Im just curious. I might try the Michelin power super sports next.
moulding marks, i.e. where the rubber was injected in to the mould, or more likely where the sections of the moulds met: created a weakness in the layers of rubber?
I saw this on their website when I wasnt distracted by the maxxis babes Lifetime Guarantee | Tyre Guarantee | Maxxis Tyres - Ultimate Control | Maxxis Tyres It says only road use for the guarantee but I might send the pic and see what they say.
seen that witha few maxxis tyres over thwe last few yrs. there a thread on another froum atm about cuts in tyres aswell (different tyres though) and the general thought ius that it can happn when the tyre is fitted when they are very cold, although your tyres looks an actuall defect.i doubt you'll get much come back from maxxis though. 1 thing, cheap tyres work out very very expensive when your sliding down the track
Just a note on the Michelin Power Sports James, myself, Jason and And7rp2 have these fitted to our bikes and have nothing but praise for them! Got them as part of a promotional deal for a free trackday at Oulton. They have the 2ct compound and although they are very sticky, the centre compound lasts for ages! Jason used his for the forum Scotland Trip (1200 miles) and he's done quite a few trackdays on them as well. You can run the rear tyre as low as 22lbs cold due to the construction of the sidewall. I'd definitely use them again!.
Yeah most people I speak to about them have nothing but praise for them. Ive only ever had a more road based tyres when doing trackdays so it will be good to try a more track focused tyre. 22psi? Is that right?
And that's the same 1200 miles i destroyed a brand new S20!! Think Jason said he had done 5 td's in them and still good for one more I think. Impressive stuff.
Definitely 22lbs James. When we did the free trackday with Michelin they had their own tech guys and tyre support crew there.
Just been looking and the cheapest ive found a pair is in £236.70 with free delivery. I think thats cheaper than at a trackday. Ill have to ring up and find out.
I'm no tyre boffin, but what you say sounds right, I've been a plant fitter for the last 19 years, & I've come across similar faults on trailer tyre's that have come into contact with spilt diesel on numerous occasions, not saying that the tyres on your bike have been contaminated, more than likely the heat from riding has caused the outer layers to come away. You will probably find the tyre will peel like an orange when they get heat in them when this has started
