I've been looking at novice track days and the nearest is Oulton Park but I'm worried the Yoshimura R77 carbon can will not pass their noise test at 101db held at 45degrees and 0.5m from the exhaust.
So I borrowed a meter from a car enthusiast and my bike is hitting 131db even with the db killer fitted. So I tested my BMW R1200GSA standard can and it came out at 118db.
Is there something wrong if a totally standard GS wouldn't be able to go on track?

Depending where you took the reading, I.e was it in a garage or outside? That would make a difference?

Just seems a real shame that I might have to put the stock exhaust on to go on a track day! Has anyone been to Oulton, have you used an r77, are they as strict as it seems?

Those readings sound very high, there is no way the blade would be 131 Db with the baffle in but I still think it may struggle to pass the 102Db limit at Oulton.

All you can do is pop down there before you book and ask them to test it.

i would check that reader defo cant be right, my blade last week at snetterton with my akrapovic with baffles fitted was 96db, the loudest bike i have ever had was reading 110db and trust me it was loud, 131db the old bill would be all over you on the road.

Go to Anglesey, no noise limits and just came back from 2 days there. I have a r77 fitted and had no baffles in.

Also 131db sounds wrong. If testing cars is anything like bikes then u need a flat area. 45. Degree angle at 0.75 mtrs. At 3/4 revs.

I've done pembrey with the baffle in and Anglesey with it out. And both great circuits for a newbie to track days

My Akrapovic, baffle out was 104.5 at Cadwell, and the r-77 and Akra are similar on sound levels, with the baffle in mine came in at 101 so I think you should be ok

Looks like a need a second opinion /db test, I agree the meter must be out. Hadn't thought about Anglesey, will check it out, thanks Remal.

I would check the settings on the meter. :)

131db is incredably loud;louder than a standard bike exhaust is capable of; the db scale is not linear.

It's a logarithmic scale so each DB is 10 x the last. 131 would be crazy loud so I would try another meter, in an open flat space.

Looks like the meter I borrowed must be out. I retested the stock 1200GSA out in the open and that was still 117

Anyone with a Yoshimura R77 had it tested at a track?

what revs are you checking at?

    5500 for a thou.

oulton is very strict though, but well worth it if you can get it to pass.
