As title, would you buy an ex demo bike or take one of the many deals avail. On a new one? I only ask as I had a shit experience with an ex demo Audi, but of course the faults could have occurred if I'd bought new also. Thanks in advance!
Yes I would prefer and have bought many a Demo bike, this way you can feel if it is ok. I have got some cracking deals with demo bikes with some 100 miles on and my current blade had 310 miles on which saved me a fortune over a new bike!!!
Depends on finance - at present 'brand new' bikes are on stupid cheap deals, demo bikes (I don't think) qualify for these offers Depends how you finance new bike, but could well be cheaper each month to get a brand new one cheap finance.
Thanks guys, really undecided as to keeping my bike, going for a new blade( or demo) or dare I say it a BMW OR RC8r....
Got me new blade on 0% deal, only put down a very small amount of deposit n paying off rest ingerest free, spreads cost out nicely without taking a big hit n keeps Mrs happy i aint blown 10k on a bike in 1 big hit, I personally wudnt buy an ex demo as they r ragged about, mostly by people who have no intention of buying that particular model of bike n by people who have got thgest but no bike and see demo bikes as a way of gerring their bike fix?? Think even kawasaki r doing 0% to at the mo, so its def worth looking about.
Err I don't agree with you there................. seeing as most dealers want at least £1500 on a credit card with a demo ride and some dealers will not want to let out riders with points on their licence, so willy will not just get on it and rag it knowing that he could lose his deposit as my mate did with a demo ride on a Truimph last year....... his jolly cost him £2500 on his credit card as he wrote the bike off.........
My only concern is when they let them out before 1st service. No way would I buy one that's been run in on demo. If not then no probs really, nobody is going to do much worse than what you are in terms of ragging it are they tbh.
Running in modern bikes with tolerances they have nowdays is old hat really!! Just as long as the engine and oil is warm then there is no need to run them in. The most important thing is to run them hard to bed the rings in, that's it, all the other bearings are perfect from day one. If you are too careful and don't rev it it within the first 50 miles then ring pressure will be a concern as it is the most important time of the engines life.
Bad to write bike off, but significant costs like that are there because too many were written off by folk taking the p!ss - my local dealer reduces the costs for damaged bikes IF an order for a new is placed People who test bikes with no intention of buying / ability to fund a new bike hack me off as make it harder for genuine testers to get a proper shout
Agree to a certain point, as the honda dealer who i had a test ride with spent 15 minutes telling me how much it wud cost me if i binned it, they had 3 binned this yr, all new blades, by people who did just that, ride ike idiots n rag the bike way past their own abilities, so it does happen, some ger away with it some dont.
You obviously know more than me mate as I'm not that mechanically minded, but I still don't like the thought of buying a bike that every fcuker has pinned out the dealers on a cold engine until its had its 1st service and been run in. I've always been quite disciplined with my run ins and every new bike I've had has run sweet as a nut.
I test rode a blade and BMW before I bought the blade, none took deposit, or checked my license... Had bikes for a few hours, the only thing the bm guy said was keep it in wet mode, and then sport but DON'T put it in race mode!! It was in race mode by the 1st set of lights.... Both great test rides, not sure I'd have been totally happy about owning either bike after lol
IMO. I know where your coming from on the demos. They are very tempting and considerably cheaper than new. But for me its like having the prettiest girl on your arm. You know shes a good ride, but sadly so do half the village. What I'm trying to say, there will always be the test pilots who throw a leg over with no intention of buying, so treat the bike with little or no respect. It's the dilemmas of buying any bike new or old i guess, you got to be happy in your own mind with the fact, regardless of what your told, on face value your happy with it, regarless of who may have ridden it and how it's been treated.
I was looking at the ex-Haslam school bikes - fantastic value, mint bodywork as its mothballed from day 1 then re-fitted for sale - I know a few go down track but all I have seen looked mint. Full Honda warranty for remainder of time - just don't get the one ColinBR rode...
Ok so people have their different views which is why we have a public forum, so you can take your perspective and choose your avenue. Great exactly what a forum should be about!! I change my bike every 8-12 months and really have a choice of where I spend my money because I use it for business porpoises and swallow the costs in my accounts. So the money I save is pretty good given that I will only keep the bike some small time.

if your paying close to new money then buy new, if there is a big saving on a demo then i would consider it but most likely id buy new...demos can be a fair bit cheaper but for peace of mind id spend the extra money and get a new one.
