Just bought a load of pressies for the Blade including some supersprox and a Tsubaki 530 SGX ring chain, but I think I have skimped on my riveter as bought a DID type.

The link that comes with the tsubaki is a solid rivet, before I break the tool can anyone confirm this is not suitable for the job.
If so can anyone recommend a tool that will do the job.

My other option (much cheaper) is to buy a hollow rivet B&C Express | Tsubaki Rivet Link
If I buy this will my pound shop tool manage?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jon

Yes that tool is for the soft rivet links, you need a whale rivet tool to peen over the links as you know, search for whale chain tool.

That's pricey considering I've already wasted 30 squids.
I you opinion would it be okay to buy a hollow tsubaki rivet and use the did tool on that?

no reason not to buy the hollow rivet and then use your existing tool,it "should" peen the link over ok.failing that a few taps with a well aimed hammer+punch will do it (obvioulsy the tool would be better).

my riveter is similar to yours, and cost around 40 quid, done over 10 chains with it and only snapped 1 pin due to over peening (or not paying attention ;) )

Dont see why not, you can use two hammers if your good with them you can get it too look neat, you only need to slightly deform the heads, tbh with the whale I still use the DiD tool to press on the link then the whale to rivet it, if you buy one you will be set for life!

    Thanks Guys,

Looking forward to putting on a new chain, mine is on its last legs. It's got a horrendous tight spot, 25mm then 40mm at the most slack, -its got 15k on the clocks. The OEM chain seems to have died in the last 500miles or so as I check, clean and lube every week end. Hopefully this will last much longer.

chains will always have tight spots though, but for me it's 1 of those things not to skimp on as if they go it can hurt!!!(money and physical)
