sorry in advance for the stupid question, but I have an argument with a friend who does track days and he assures me that a rear tyre dimension 180/60 is exactly the same as a 190/50 when mounted on an identical rim... I find this hard to believe because why would then tire manufactures even bather to make these different dimensions?

anyway, thought that I'll just quickly ask :)

    greetz,

Its not such a daft question cause I've heard the same. M8 runs a 180/60 on the road and despite the steeper profile (better turn in and stability at max lean apparently) the rear physically measures 193mm wide. The width of rim is bound to distort it as well tho doesn't it, so what do I know. Surely the 180mm would have been developed to fit a narrower rim?

I'm no expert, but i dont think there's a massive difference. I had no problem using my left over zx6r 180's when I first got my Blade and will swap tyres between the Blade and my 600cc track bike, but we'll see how that pans out.
