Anyone suggestion a good route for 4 days riding in North Italy / Dolomites area. Approx 1000 mile (ish) round trip from Milan would be ideal. Something twisty for sportsbike fun would be ideal. Thanks for any help that can be offered
Dolomites are hit and miss when I went mate.... Amazing scenery and roads followed by random pot hole, gravel shitters.... Might be a. Case of weather and maintenance roulette fella I'd head through, into Austria (grossglockner is mega) and into southern Germany.... Or go Swiss and French passes. Sorry - not much help
Cheers for the heads up Jimbo. I know what you mean as rode to Rimmini 2 years ago for the motogp and did find the Italian roads in need of some TLC. Thing is flying into Milan where I was looking to hire a bike for 4 days so Dolomites seemed a good idea. Can I read a loop where you suggest and do it in 4 days from Milan and back ? If yes please give a suggested route. Cheers
I done from balogne to Austria at the base of grossglockner in a day (pretty full on) Enjoyed the Dolomites though but had to keep eye out as would go from perfect Tarmac to shocking no warning. So a loop would be possible for sure. Day up, day down and two on better roads?
I had a Dolomite Sprint when I was a teenager, that was hit and miss as well most of the time, not sure if that's any help?
I think that's a really good little trip - fly in, rent bike home 4 days later. I would base yourself in Arabba so you only check into / out of a hotel once Look into the cable car up the marmolada glacia or up to the WW1 trenches for a break off the bike - as said the scenery is stunning, esp. at sunrise / sunset. I have never had enough time there and been really tempted to do a similar trip as it feels way easier to fly in / fly out
Hi mate, I've stayed here and thought it was very good, underground parking for bikes good rooms / food etc http://www.albergopordoi.it/uk/motorraeder_uk.asp Will add link to another in same place. It's not huge place but got everything you need.
Not stayed here but again looks good and with single rooms if travelling on your own keeps £ down http://mobile.sporthotelarabba.com/en/cyclists-and-motorcyclists-holidays-in-arabba/
You could have a break from the bike taking the cable car here: http://www.alpentourer.com/alpine_passes/south_tyrol/falzarego/falzarego.html
Also this cable car http://dolomitistars.dolomiti.org/index.cfm/localita-eng/marmolada/ Whole area is fantastic - I'm quite envious tbh
