I'm itching for a bit of new kit and now that I have got rid of the car and use my bike full time I am thinking of treating myself to a new pair of Draggin Jeans.

I have an Astar one piece race suit, an Astar leather jacket and a Astar touring winter kit. I also have a Triumph branded Astar 2 piece. I'm not on commission here.....I just like their stuff!

Anyway, I'm thinking of selling the 2 piece for a pair of Draggin's new Holeshot Jeans. They are £250 but claim to be the best and maybe even only CE approved jeans.

Just wanted to see what you thought about using these as a replacement to a 2 piece. Would you keep them all?

I feel I have maybe too much gear so don't mind selling them and I think for trips to the shop, local runs, days where I will be off the bike as much as on it (i.e. BSB/Moto GP races) and even touring Europe the jeans are just far more practical and maybe even just as safe? Plus I work from home and sometimes have to visit clients and suppliers. I don't need to wear a suit!

There's no doubt leathers provide better protection.
Personally I view leathers like my Helmet and gloves ie would not got out without them..... but if you are not gonna wear them Draggin's are better than nothing. The thing I would invest in is a belt to attach the jacket to stop it riding up in an off.

I would keep all the gear and wear the leathers most of the time and only use the jeans on the odd occasion were the trip was short/slow and in good weather!

Dragging Jeans are never as safe as leathers. Apart from anything they are too loose so any armour would move in crash.
Try some on, if you can twist the knee armour around you leg and away from your knee that's exactly what will happen as you slide down the road.

I'd never tour Europe jeans. Long days riding fast on unknown roads are more likely to end in a spill imho.

They're kk for a trip to the shops or a short bimble but I'd keep the two piece leathers for road riding of any length or speed.

Yeah I would agree with you entirely as I currently have some Draggin Jeans and use them very occasionally. However, with the new ones attaining CE approval I'm thinking they should should be a even better for most day to day riding therefore a decent replacement for my leathers. If I go out purely for a fun ride then I would always put my one piece suit on anyway. I know what you mean though....leathers give you that confidence you are better protected. You could also argue that jeans would focus your mind to be a little safer lets say?

It's funny you say that because I was wondering something about this. Leathers, boots and gloves are generally design to make you slide to reduce the risk of twist injuries etc. this is all fine on a race track with a 50ft run off but when you have road furniture isn't the opposite the desired effect? Just a thought?

I know what you mean though. I will probably end up buying a new 2 piece set before long! Old one is now on eBay though.

Personally I prefer leathers to jeans or textiles. Just my view but leathers get my vote all the time

I've been digging a bit deeper into this and the more I read the more confident I am about buying these particular jeans.

Most Motorcycle clothing is CE approved, even if the garment itself is not because it carries CE approved armour. These Jeans are CE approved to level 2 which is the highest award you can get. Although it's hard to get your head round, these jeans are more protective against road rash than most of the leading manufacturer race leathers including those being ridden in MotoGP. That's pretty impressive. It's all about abrasion resistance and heat dissipation.

I was speaking to the dealer who is waiting for delivery and theory couldn't speak highly enough of them having seen them at a recent sales promo.

So, out goes my 2 piece and its jeans, boots and a jacket for most of my daily riding now. Will feel wrong I'm sure but lets just hope I don't get to test them!
