Hi all. I’m new to the forum and after enjoying my 2018 CBR1000rr SP for nearly 3 years I’ve got my first snag and hoping someone might be able to help please? Whilst riding today the PGM FI warning light illuminated and after checking the DTC menu it is displaying a code 33 which I believe is an ECU fault. I’ve tried to reset the code using a jumper wire but after initially clearing, when the bike is powered back up the code returns. The bike was re-flashed around 3 years and 10,000 miles ago and has been faultless until now. I’m praying that it won’t need a new ECU and that maybe another reflash might do the trick? Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully received. Cheers, Jim.
Code 33 is a EEPROM fault. Are you sure it is code 33, if so thats a bummer. (An EEPROM is where the ECU stores small bits of information internally)
Hi, thanks for the replies. It’s definitely code 33 unfortunately. I’m wondering if an ECU reflash or repair will be possible. Otherwise it looks like I’m staring down the barrel of a new ECU and lock set!
A competent electronics engineer can replace an EEPROM. But then you have to put the original data back in. I'd speak to some tuners, and see if they can help. They are bound to know ECU repairers. A quick Google for 'Honda CBR ECU repairs' also brings up some repairers. Apologies I don't know anyone reputable. (for what its worth.. I do not think the ECU reflash caused the fault).
