Ok, due to other commitments or rain I haven’t ridden it for a couple of weeks but all the same this bike still has the potential to scare the Shite out of me, it’s like a wild mare that refuses to be tamed.

I have a had a rough August so far so decided when I got home earlier this evening to go for a ride and try and clear my constant headache, concentrate on something other than work.

God, I love this bike, even though I am quite used to it, it still feels like kicking wasp in the balls when you wind it up the rev range. It’s like a wild animal intent on hurting me or at the very least providing PC pod with enough reasons to ensure I buy a bus pass.

I was out for just over an hour and half and when I returned I was sweating like Jimmy Saville’s legal team, totally knackered and wanting a shower and bed. L also commented on my rather wide eyes.

Oh, and my headache has completely gone, give it an hour chairing tomorrow’s early morning tender submission meeting and it will be back. But for now I am sure I will sleep like a baby with a brandy soaked dummy.

Don’t you just love our hobby ?

The down side is my job when I get home tomorrow evening will be cleaning all the dead fly’s off the front of the bike, my helmet, gloves, boots and leathers

Always good to blow away the demons with a good old blast on the bike mate.

I'm hoping for some decent weather this weekend to get out a blast on the SP1 down the borders road.

You know me well enough James; I have to have things spotless.

Yes it is awesome, the only thing is, it’s a pig below 50/60mph. It’s got to go for its 1 year service next month so I might ask them to do the sprocket and chain change as I hear it helps lower speed riding.

You can have go with pleasure, just lodge its value in my bank first and you can be my guest. Better still wander into your local dealer and they will let you have play for a grand deposit to cover their insurance excess……you know you want to.

It’s a whole different riding experience to your blade and R1 mate. Polar opposites’ in fact.

Should I mention that I am putting new fairings onto I bike I haven't cleaned in about 4 months?

Or would that be mean to the OCD brigade ;)

It's a curse that OCD I tell ya.... Gets in the way of riding!

I've heard it's way more civilised than the old ones so they must be shocking, but you know the answer, keep it above 60mph ha ha....

A grand deposit, is that all? Can blow that sort of money I can't afford racing in a weekend, but this way you get it back if you don't crash!! Sounds like a good deal to me.... Might pitch this format to no limits ;)

Different animal entirely, would love one as a change from the IL4 but just don't think it'd stand up to the abuse in terms of mileage I'd throw at it..... That said, I'm doing hardly any road miles these days.... But I have my eye on something else, non jap and non sportsbike :)

Great news you got out and enjoyed it.

We must get out this year for a ride David, the roads around your way are cool and ADV knows so awesome routes.

Dealers locally to me doesn't request 1k deposit, is that the norm?

Read the small print on the paper before setting off. I heard some dealers only give you 3rd party and you are responsible if you crash it. I took out an 899 abd they took my credit card and the excess was a 1000 if i crashed it.

Defo in the small print as you say, they may "forget" to say but most Panni are 2k if you bin it!

Great to see you still enjoy the 1199, I'm hanging out for a go on the SL...

Only in the small print if you sign something!

Normally I have only ever shown my licence? our local Honda dealer didn't even ask for that when he gave me the blade to try lol

as for a £1k deposit, don't think it's too bad... if you crashed your own it'd cost you more in excess and loss of no claims etc in the long run... bin it, pay up, walk away

Sorry, get the excess as most dealers regardless of bike apply that if it's binned. There was a £500 on an MSX I took out. (Wasn't my normal Honda dealer, as normally just show my licence)

More the upfront deposit I haven't come across, but suppose it’s the same thing if refunded when the bikes back safe.
