May come in handy for others looking at new tyres. Hope this helps I hated my OE Dunlops on my Triple so took some time for me to try thesse new Sportsmarts out. I was looking at fast road/TD tyres which I know would be crap in the rain and last no more than 1500 miles on the rear. I went for these as I had a TD and Big Euro tour booked within 4-5 weeks of each other. Took the risk and get them fitted How have they lasted: Christ I liked my 2CT's and they gave good life on the rear. But these Dunlops have blow me away. the pics below are after 2500 miles. They have more than half the tread left. 3-4MM left. On Trackdays: OK this was my first every bike trackday so I'm no riding god on track. I had no tyre warmers and for the first 2-3 laps took it steady. They warmed up well. gripped like shit to a blanket. Gave great feedback. I did have them with 34PSi front and rear to start but after talking to the tyre guy went 29 rear and 30front. the first session was damp in places. But they coped well. No issues. in the dry they gave me so much confidence in the corners. I would recommend them to anyone for track days unless your are very experienced an want mega grip. So I'm told. They did around 500 miles before my TD. around another 100 on Track. Then I went on my Euro trip around France, Andorra and Spain. Covered another 1800+ miles on that trip. I had 35+ Degrees in Spain and heavy rain in Northan Spain by Santander. No issues in the heavy rain and again held up very well in the very hot weather. As you can see, loads of life left After my Trackday http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6001/5966480906_20c4bed873_z.jpg
Awesome mate ... They have so much tread from new that mine still have more tread than most tyres even now at 1500 miles done fast road riding .. very impressed
I am liking mine alot tried them properly on my very long way home from work on Friday via south wales, can't put my finger on it I just know they give me more confidence than the BT015 that came with it. Shame my first rear only lasted about 100 miles, but I can't blame Dunlop for a rogue nail or whatever it was!! Glad to know the mileage is looking pretty good on the Blade should last longer than alot of the other similar tyres so makes up for them being a bit more expensive.
Forgot to ask are these the 55 profile? As I think I'll try that over the 50 something I remember flatstick saying.
Yup .. thats what I went for when I got to Snetterton ... My tyres would not have done more than a session or two so I had the Sportsmarts fitted before I started . I went for the rear in 55 aspect ratio . I can confirm that I will not go back to a 50 tyre after giving the 55 a try . These tyres are the Poodles Pods .. give em a try you will not be disappointed
I have the same fitted with the 55 profile and they are epic, It'll take a awesome tyre to change me from these now. The only better tyre for grip is the metzeler racetecs I have on my track bike but they are a track tyre and nothing else. Highly recommended
55 on mine to .. Instantly noticeable how quicker the bike turns. I done 350 miles on the M4 last week and after 1150 miles already on the tyre i thought i wiuld have started a bit of a flat spot in the middle but nothing at all .. Great tyres
Totally Agree Remal. I would never have bought them if I hadn't had 2 very strong recommendations from chaps on the Wheeltrax Germany tour this year (I'm a fan of 2CTs), and was then told by Track Sense (they do the Almeria track days & run a bike garage near me) that SportSmarts are the only tyres they put on their track bikes. Glad to say I'm now a full convert to them & would fit them again. Velcro like grip wet or dry & the bike turns so much quicker now as well.
Was looking at getting some BT023's once my OE's run out, but have not read good reviews on them. After reading this thread though, I think I'll be fitting a set of Sportsmarts with a 55 profile on my RR7 as this seems the tyre & size/profile to go for.
A mate of mine has a tricked up GSXR1000 and rides it like he stole it. He got just over 4,500 from his last one.
I can vouch for Sportsmarts. Had them on my K8 Hayabusa. I had done 3500 miles on them when i sold it last month. The Busa is well known for chewing rear tyres, but both front and rear were still good after this mileage. Not even any squaring off of the rear! They are incredible. I will be fitting these to the Blade when the Bridgstones are worn out.
Wow they sound great, i fited a set of pirelli corsa rossos not more that 3000 miles ago and the rear is looking worn already even though i do not hammer the bike and no trackdays!! £250 a pair though so i will look at fitting the Dunlops this side of Christmas as i think i will have put another 4K on the bike then.
My mate is only getting 1700 - 2000 miles from Corsa Rossos on a ZX10 So your doing alright actually fella
Must be the cushion of air i ride upon.......................... or the roads around here are made of velvet!!!
