Looks like valley track day will be wet for at least some of the time and I only have Sportsmarts, never had them before. I've only done 200 or so miles on them, mostly on wet or damp rds only dry riding was carrying injury and fuzzy head, after scrub in have got them to a good 10mm from the edge on 55 profile with no dramas in damp. As I have v little experience of these tyres I was wondering how hard to push in the wet (obviously keep it smooth) does anyone have much experience of wet track days on these.......can you take them to the edge, knee down etc or just minimum brakes hang right off and stay mega smooth.
only used them in the wet on road and they aint too bad tbh - as good as most road tyres. as for track, i've been on wet tracks with other road tyres and even tried going out on racetcs at a very wet oulton park (that i wouldnt advise lol) but you will be ok - but i'd give up any hope of knee down etc.... just try and be smooth as said and be very careful with the right wrist! lol it's good fun, and will improve your riding no end, but treat with caution.... guessing it's a road bike and you dont have spare wheels - as full wets are mind blowing to ride on, totally change your perception of grip levels.
I have used them for dry track and wet on the road and been impressed with them. So can't see a bit issue if your careful
Thankyou both for a constructive answer to a tyre question........makes a refreshing change nice one!!!!!!!
Sportsmarts are fine for wet road at brisk pace utterly sht for track. I.E fine when the bike is reasonably upright but lent over they squirm even with gentle action. You can pin the throttle while fairly upright and no probs........I guess I should have realised that from looking at the tread pattern Richie was having a much better time on Pilot power 3's That and my visor was fooked..... not good at all
