I dont know whether its me but my bike has developed a clicking sound on shut off and opening of throttle.Sounds like its from the front of the engine.Chain is 25 to 30mm slack, the chain is lubed. It's done just over 1100 miles.Mention it to Kent m/cycles and they said it's normal. It seems to be getting louder and it was not as loud when run in.It's an rra model.Any suggestions?
2008-2010 CBR 1000RR Warranty Extension-Another Recall read the top post mate, does this sound right for your problem
not sure, i have known about the american recall for a while now, dont know if its happened over here though
Just found this on Honda Bulletin number 31012011 Issued 31/01/2011 Engine Abnormal Noise Won't let me go any further can check tomorrow at work but if you can let me have your VIN I can check the warranty database as well.
Right managed to load the recall and it is the same, this is the diagnostic procedure. If this is the fault then it's rare and is engine out and strip down job. Affected VIN Range Affected range includes all CBR1000RR 2008YM, 2009YM, 2010YM. MODEL INFORMATION -CBR1000RR8: 2008 YM -CBR1000RR9: 2009 YM -CBR1000RA9: 2009 YM with ABS -CBR1000RRA: 2010 YM -CBR1000RAA: 2010 YM with ABS Please use the following procedure to verify abnormal primary drive gear noise. 1. Warm the engine to normal operating temperature. 2. With the engine idling, put the transmission into first gear while holding the front brake on. 3. While holding the front brake, slowly release the clutch lever to put a slight load on the engine (without stalling), then pull in the clutch lever. Do this several times slowly, and compare the engine noise when the engine is loaded and unloaded. If the engine noise does not change when the engine is loaded and unloaded, the crankshaft primary gear is OK.
Thanks lads, I will have a good look over her today and try the clutch diagnosis this morning.I'll keep you updated.
Mine definitely displays the same symptoms in the linked thread... Supercharger whine, rattling from right side... Will do the test procedure tonight to verify...
Oh dear!! I'm going to give mine a once over this afternoon.I should be able to hear it in gear whilst on the paddock stand. And if it is from the primary drive area it's going back.
I'm doing both mate the clutch one as per instructions when I get back from a warm up down the town. And paddock stand diagnosis if it's not the primary gear.I've got to clean it anyway
Well I had a look at her this afternoon and still no diagnosis. The primary gear is good no noises loaded or unloaded. The rattling is coming from both the sprocket end and clutch. What adds to the noise is the butterflies opening and shutting. My concern is Im not entirely happy with the noise on a bike that costs over 10 grand. So it's going back as a precaution.
The primary gear fault is very rare I'm not aware of any machines being affected, could be more problematic in America and Honda UK have issues the recall purely as a precaution. Good luck with the diagnoses Sideways let me know if I can be of any assistance.
